Problem with temperature in the meat drawer

The temperature in the meat drawer occasionally rises and meat spoils much faster then its expiration date. At other time meats stored on the left side in the drawer are frozen. We keep resetting it without success.

sounds like the damper door down there is not opening also the fan down may not be coming on to bring temp down to 32.

Why do I need a separate temperature control for my fridge and freezer?


For the same reason you want them at different temps.
Older single controls would affect both temperatures. So if you wanted the ice cream to be a little softer, the milk spoiled. If you wanted the meat to stay frozen longer, the lettuce got iced.

See if there is a temperature setting on the side of the drawer. Mine has a small lever that opens a hole to the freezer to keep that drawer colder. If it's opened too far the food will freeze.

Depending on your local environment and the temperature where you live, if the door was open for that length of time, the freezer will probably take another 24 hours to recover and reach its operating temperature.

If the freezer was full, it might even take longer. If there were meat products in the freezer that thawed out, they may have spoiled, so be aware of that. Sometimes, some meat products can be cooked right away so they aren't wasted. All other products in the freezer should also be checked.

My Brinkmann Electric Smoke and Grill (Double) is cooking


I hope your turkey turned out OK. I read all of the smoking and grilling forums and it seemed to be a very common occurrence yesterday that turkeys cooked in far less time that the grill masters thought they would. Could be that most birds are pre-brined and the additional moisture causes the birds to cook faster. Could be that they are leaner than in the past and the fat renders sooner, causing internal temp to rise faster.

I would let it cook and just check the internal meat temperature at regular intervals starting about 15 minutes per pound.

At what temperature was your smoker running during your cook?

its normal for the temperature to stay around 28 degrees farenheight int the bottom drawer. (fresh cut meat keeps better at his temp). you can adj the temp slide near the bottom of the refrig next to the botom drawer to help adj temp. veggies will almost always freeze in the bottom drawer. also adj the temp controls to a little bit warmer to help as well.


Keep in mind the mid point settings on your refrig is just a starting point for you to adj to where it works best for you and your usage..
