Your old motherboard is not capable of recognizing the new drive without some help. Go to the drive manufacturer's website, download and run their utilities to pre-configure your drive and allow your BIOS to work with it.
On such an old system you may not be able to do it at all. But should you post your drive make & model someone may be able to at least point you in the right direction.
