You could try a system restore to set the graphics back to normal. This would uninstall programs you installed since the restore date, but doesn't affect files and folders.

To run System Restore:

Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, then select System Restore. Choose a restore point before the problem occurred. It will take about 15 minutes, and hopefully your problem will be resolved.

The my laptop took some water damage about a year ago, since then the display on the screen has looked like a photo negative. Is there any way to fix this wihout taking it to a repair place?

HI there,

Here's the easiest way for you to troubleshoot this hardware problem.

1. Using an external monitor (whether your own or at a friend's place) which you connect to the laptop, see if the same problem shows on the bigger monitor. On most Toshiba, you'll need to transfer the video signal by holding down the "fn" key and pressing the F5 key oncew you've attached the laptop with the video cable.

a. If the same negative-like appearance appears on the larger montior, it means your problem is with the video chip which is soldered to the motherboard, the plug where the laptop screen attaches to that board, or damaged circuitry in between. This would almost surely cost more to repair than to buy a working used A105.

b. If the external monitor shows up clear and normal, then you have narrowed the problem down to the the laptop screen's connecting cable plug and there's a chance that the cable's end that plugs in has electrically shorted out elements, or the surge from the water shorting some curcuits damaged what's called the "screen inverter" or the LCD screen panel or both.

2. If the result is b., then you should look into what a local laptop repair specialist would charge to double check this and do the replacements. Then, you'd be able to make a decision that fits your personal needs and situation.

Best Regards

My Gateway MT6707's screen makes everything negative.

It sounds like the 'High Contrast' Accesabiliy option in windows has been truned on. This is a setting that a person who has visual imparement might use to be able to see the screen and text better.
To turn this off :
  • Click Start->Control Panel
  • Double Click the 'Accessibility Options 'icon
  • Click on the 'display' tab
  • Remove the check mark from 'Use High Contrast'
  • Click OK
Your screen will return to it's not color/size settings.

My screen looks like a photo negative..I have a Toshiba Satellite.

Right click on your Desktop, click on Properties, then go to the Settings tab and set the color to 32 bit True Color.

It sounds to me like your display settings are set to monochrome/black and white.

Best Regards,

James

The display has dimmed, and looks washed out (faded)

You most likely have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
