SOURCE: Sanyo CLT2054 - power cord has light but when I plug it into the

OK you need a volt meter to check the voltage output of your power pack as two things cause this now enough power out the pack to run your unit or the unit has a short both problems will unlight the light so you need to know if the power supply is working right first as it should say like 120 volts AC in and 12 volts DC 1000 ma out so you will need to mesure this with a volt meter. this is a common problem loading the load of the curcuit as in your TV is mor the the power pack is giving out thus shorting out the power pack of any voltage present, as the little LED light your seeing only takes 5 volts at very ittle current to light and dose not repersent the total voltage output of the power pack itself

Why did you flash the bios? Did you flash it with an upgraded bios that you downloaded from the HP Compaq site for your model and your operating system? When you turn on the laptop immediately start hitting the F8 Key repeatedly to see if it shows you the SAFE Mode option. If so select Safe Mode and see if it boots.

Are there any blinking lights or beeps? This is very strange. Try removing the battery and the power cord, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the battery out) and see if it boots. If it does you had a static buildup in the laptop and you released it by holding the power button for 30 seconds. If it boots, put the battery back in.

if all fails you can try to see if your system will go into System Recovery when you press the Power Button immediately hit the F10 or F11 keys repeatedly. If so you can set your system back to the way it was when your purchased it. That means you will lose all your data, documents, music, pictures and videos.

Most likely, either the power jack inside the machine (jack itself or solder joints) or the plug on the power cord was damaged; obviously the plug is only a few dollars to replace, the jack also only a few dollars, but much more labor intensive. My experience tells me it's probably the power jack. If you have any way to externally charge your battery and, using it, find the machine operational, that pins it down pretty well. When the external supply is used, the internal battery is supposed to be switched out of the load circuit and into charging mode.

Did you check your power management settings?

Have you tried cycling through the monitor modes (Fn +F8)? THere are three modes. If you're on the presentation mode, video is being sent only to an external monitor, not your laptop screen.

Front panel Ac Switch failing to start computer.

Try these steps.
If Power supply light does not turn on (or no power supply LED)
Perform the following steps, in order, until power is restored or it is determined that there is a hardware failure:
NOTE: If the Power Supply fan spins when the PC is turned on but the light does not come on, it is possible the LED is defective. If this is the case, use the section Power supply light comes on or flashes .
1. Disconnect everything from the PC, including the power cord.
2. With the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the front of the computer. Plug in the power cord and test to see if the computer can turn on. If not, continue using these steps.
3. Replace the power cord with another power cord, like the one used by the monitor.
Test to see if the computer can turn on. If not, continue using these steps.
4. Ensure that the voltage selector switch is on the correct setting, 115V for North America.
5. With the power cord removed, flip the red voltage selector switch to the opposite position, wait about five seconds, and then switch the red voltage selector switch back to its original location.
This ensures that the voltage switch is engaged and set correctly for your country/region.
6. Plug in the power cord and test to see if the computer can turn on. If not, continue using these steps.
7. Plug a lamp into the same outlet to see if the wall outlet has power. Try the computer in a different outlet in order to eliminate the outlet as a possible source of the issue. Test both to see if the wall outlets have power.
8. Remove all extension cords, power strips, surge protectors and any converters that remove ground. Plug the power cable directly to the wall outlet. Test for power. If this fixes the issue, find the device that is causing the issue and do not use it.
9. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the build-up of dust from the power supply fan vent holes. Make sure that the PC is turned off and that the power cord is plugged into a grounded outlet. Only use the end of the vacuum hose near the outside of the fan entrance.
Plug in the power cord and test to see if the computer can turn on. If not, continue using these steps.
10. If all of the above steps have been tried and the power supply light remains off, use the steps in the next section, use the next section Power supply light comes on or flashes , to reseat the cables and check the power switch connector.

My laptop keeps powering off as soon as it starts up?

Are you getting juice out of the power cord? You could use a multimeter to see that you are getting the rated power out of the brick. Sometimes it is as simple as a plug not making good contact.Find a voltmeter and test if the adapter puts out any power at all. Make sure the RAM is properly seated, unplug every peripheral (even the cd/dvdrom drive), power it up on direct electric power. Check if you can get into the BIOS (F2, or F10, or delete, or some random key depending on the manufacturer, that you press when you power up).

Most laptops have a little light showing that they are recharging when plugged in properly. Is there a green LED light? Alternatively, I had an old laptop where the brick had a removable power cord and one of the prongs in the adapter where the power cord plugged into the brick would sometimes get pushed in and fail to make contact. Once I had that plugged in properly, I never unplugged it again.

If it fails when trying to boot windows, you could always try to download and burn an ubuntu live-cd and boot from the CD to see if the problem is really your software.

Screen goes black when power cord is plugged in.

Start by checking the power supply with an ohm meter for the proper output. Anything higher or low than one volt means the supply is faulty and will need replaced. This could also be a battery issue, if a fail safe in the battery has engaged. Try removing the battery and see if it works properly on the supply only, if so, then the battery will need replaced. If these two check good, then I'm afraid the problem is with the power management system on the motherboard, and unfortunately the motherboard Will have to be replaced.
