Question about Arris SURFboard Cable Modem

1 Answer

My cable modem is not recognizing my router/phone adapter.

I found out today that the reason why I'm experience upload at dismalspeeds (45 to 128 kb/s) is because my Comcast cable motorola modemSB4100 is not recognizing my Broadvoice SPA2102-R linksys phone adapter/router.
When I disconnected the phone adapter/router my bandwidth went from6mb/s DL/ 110kb/s UL to over 12mb/s DL/ 1.5mb/s UL. My computer is a Compaq Presario P4 HT with Vista Basic. Is there a way toforce my modem to accept my phone adapter/ router?

    Hi techyguy,

I tried that several times today. I finally spoke with Comcast technical support this evening and they are going to send me a tech in a few days. Thanks for your answer.

Did you get the broadvoice from comcast?  I ask, because they won't troubleshoot it if it is not theirs.  The speed issues sound like it could be a problem with Powerboost (which will basically boost your dl speeds about 100% for a small duration.  If you have powerboost in your area, the functionality is turned on and downloaded to your cable modem

How do i connect my tp link router to my dsl modem

Hi,
* 1 Unplug your DSL modem and D-Link router. In order for the network to properly recognize its devices, these devices must be attached in a specific order.

* 2 Plug in your DSL modem's power cord. There is usually no power button on a modem. Simply plugging in its electrical cable will turn it on. Give your DSL modem a couple minutes to re-establish its connection to AT&T's network before taking any further action.

* 3 Plug in your D-Link router's power cord. Like the DSL modem, this router will probably not have a power switch; simply plug in the power cable, and it turns on. Let the D-Link router sit for a couple minutes while it establishes its connection to the DSL modem and AT&T's network.

* 4 Physically attach your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable. Even if the router and modem are wireless, a physical connection must be established to properly configure the router. If this is not a wireless network, then your setup procedure is essentially complete.

To access a D-Link router on your network, open an Internet browser and navigate to the 192.168.0.1 address. This will bring you to your D-Link router's interface. The default User Name is "admin" (without the quotes), and there is no password. Enter the User Name and click the "Log In" button. This will bring you to the Setup window. Refer to your D-Link router's documentation for changing the default password (highly recommended) and forwarding ports.

If this is a wireless network, you have a couple further steps. First, change your network's SSID (Service Set Identifier) title, so that you can recognize it when other wireless networks are nearby. Also, choose your wireless encryption and passphrase. WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) is a solid option. Specific instructions depend on your model of D-Link router; so refer to your documentation (which can usually be found at the manufacturer's website if you do not have it on hand).

* 5 Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer. Your new wireless network should be visible with your computer's wireless adapter. Windows and OS X will notify you of networks in range when your adapter is active. Connect to the one with your SSID, and enter the passphrase.

Does a wireless router need to be connected to a phone line?

Hello emanuelav716, Your router does not need to be connected to a phone line. However is does need to be connected to a cable or DSL modem if you want internet access. If you are just looking for a network inside your home or business the router can be setup that way. Please reply with any other questions or rate this solution if you found it helpful. Thanks! Each network adapter (in the Linksys router, or in your computer) has a unique 12-character code. Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will require you to "register" this 'MAC' (Media Acquisition Control) address, before they grant an IP-address to the device (router or computer). So, when you "bypass" the router, you're showing a different MAC-address to the ISP, and they are not allowing that MAC-address to get connected. Talk to your ISP.

Or, some cable-modems check the MAC-address, allowing just one or two computers to connect. Turn the cable-modem off, to make it "forget" the MAC-addresses that have connected to it.
Connect the router to the cable-modem.
Turn the modem on.
Turn the router on.
Connect your computer to the router.
Restart your computer.

Or, maybe the router really is "dead'; try the above, before choosing this option, and before buying a new router.

Belkin f5d8233 4v3 won recognize my modem

Hi! I will be more than glad to assist u in this concern..That is right! if u bypass the router it will work, the reason why the modem wont talk to the router bcoz the router is not properly setup.. if you are using a cable modem from ur cable company provider- u need to do a mac clone on the router u have to clone the mac address of ur computer. normaly the mac of ur computer is the one register to your cable company and on the setup page of the router just selct on the internet setup, dhcp after clonning the mac address of your computer. u need to connect ur computer directly to the router and then after doing the process connect the router to the modem. if u are using a username and password, u have to use the pppoe settings on the router, if ur isp set a static ip , set it up to the router, to check the ip setting of your isp.. connect the computer directly to the modem and check if u have internet.. then click on start, run and type cmd,it will give u a dos prompt and from there type ipconfig/all and it will show u the ip address, subnetmask, default gateway, dns server.. I hope this will solve ur concern..

Not recognized by cable modem

Turn everything off for 2 minutes, cable modem, router and pc.

Turn on modem and wait 2 minutes for the modem to sync to TW.
Turn on router after 2 mins and wait until the router syncs with the modem.
Turn on PC
It sounds like your router lost its connection to the cable modem, which happens from time to time. TW will not help with your router. I worked for a cable co and the router and modem losing sync was the at least 70% of the calls. FYI cable doesn't use DSL,just the phone co.

Unplugged per cable company instructions & not won't connect

The configuration of your cables is correct, as long as your modem is connected to the 'internet' port on your router. You must unplug the power cord from the back of your modem and plug it back in so that the modem recognizes the router. After doing this you should be able to get to the internet.

The modem has a security feature that only recognizes one physical address. When you were plugged directly into your pc, it had the pc's physical address saved in its memory. When you reconnected to the router, the modem blocked the router's access to the internet because the physical address of the router did not match the physical address that was saved in memory.
