Question about RCA Televison & Video
The problem has been getting worse over the last 3 weeks-sound is good but unless I let the thing rest for 1/2 hour I don't get a picture back-& now only lasts 20 minutes
I would suspect one of two general things---one if the picture dims out and does not just cut out bad solder connections for the filament in the neck of the tube---a look there with set on will when bad reveal if this is the case.
Bad solder connections somewhere on the main board--this happens with age as the board expands and contracts from heat and then cooling down.
If not a do it yourself person it may not be worth a shop repair on a 8 year old set------
Let me know if need advice.

SOURCE: Sony Trinitron experiences
The screen control inside the set may be on the highvoltage transformer or on the crt socket; either way if you can turn it up just a little clockwise and the picture comes up but doesn't look good you are likely to have a bad tube. Or try tapping lightly on the glass neck and watch the picture as you tap. If it reacts to the tap you have a bad tube. but the turning the screen control is the best test. Turn it the other way the picture goes off immediately. bad tube: too costly if it is available.

The transition from analogue TV broadcasting has been painfull in some areas. the only way to get out of this frustration is to buy yourself a digital set top box . This will convert the digital TV signals to analogue form so that your TV can pick them clearly. In any case ,the trend is to have all analogue transmissions phased out altogether
