Question about Dyson Vacuums
Less than 6 months after purchase, my Shark upright bagless beater bar stopped working. It would partially work if I held it at a sharp angle, left or right, then just stopped turning altogether. The bar is free of hair, string, whatever.....and still doesn't turn. Can't find a repair shop in NH and don't want to have to ship it. Anyone have ideas?

Does the power head motor stop, or does the brush roll stop. If it is the brush roll stopping, replace the belt and/or the brush roll. If it is the motor, you may need to clean out around the motor, it may not be getting enough air to cool causing it to overheat and stopping. That the brush roll plate off, take out the screw, and the top will come off, then you can check to see if cleaning is the answer, if not, the motor may be bad.

SOURCE: I have a Hoover Savvy
The Savvy has a brush roll motor, whcih could be bad. There also is a circuit board near the brush roll motor, a circuit board underneath the tool holder, and the switch asm. in the handle. Any of which could be the cause of the brush roll not turning. Just needs to be checked to find what is causing the problem.

SOURCE: beater bar has stopped turning
All beater and rotating brush bars are fairly easy to get to with a couple of screw on the bottom of your wan. They are driven by a belt and these belts come off, break, or the bar itself is stuck with rug material. Unplug your vacumn and get our screwdriver. It;s easy to figure out once inside the wan.

If the motor is working then check the drive belt. There's a door on the right hand side of the Oreck that comes off with a cross head screw. Check the drive belt isn't broken. If its intact then its a possibility that the beater bar has seized up - beater bars from Oreck are available although you should check EBay to see if you can get a cheaper part. Sounds like a drive belt problem though.

You need to replace the belt, it has probably broken. Your actually supposed to change them yearly. Here is a link to
the belt you need and a manual with instrutions:
