This problem is caused by a loose drive belt in the eject mechanism, you need to open the ps2 and replace the drive belt...
Take off the top cover, then take off the cover from the top of the dvd drive mech... then carefully remove the disc tray and you should see the belt near the front. Replace that belt and it should work fine again
On a couple of rare occasions the drive motor has been found to be faulty, but usually replacing the belt will fix it
There are three primary causes for drive failures.
1 75% of the time it's a weak/dead laser easy fix , buy the same model laser 20.00-30.00 and follow a tutorial on how to replace it.
2 the worm gear motor is weak . I normally just replace the drive since I can't seem to find a good vendor for this part.
3 spindle motor is weak/dead. Same solution as above . Buy the same make /model drive . Then remove the old drives P.C. board and plug/solder it in the new one ,this always works. Drives cost 40.00- 50 new .
You can always have a shop swap it out for 60.00-80.00
I learned this from a Youtube video and this did the trick for me. Hopefully, it will solve it for your X-Box 360 too!
1.Put disc into X-Box 360.
2.Turn X-Box 360 off.
4.Take disc out.
6.Turn off X-Box 360 (Immediately after slamming the tray shut)
7. Turn on X-Box 360
Your dvd drive probably has a bad motor. There are three motors inthere. One moves the tray. One moves the laser and another spins theDVD. If the tray ejects than that motor is fine. If you hear the discspinning then that motor is fine. Take the top off the dvd drive andsee it the laser moves when you close the tray it should move slightlythe laser should bob up and down and light up if none of that happensyou have a bad laser drive motor or bad laser. The solution is to buy agood DVD drive the same as your make and change the pcb boards (thecircuit board in the DVD drive) make sure yor pcb stays with yourconsole as the motherboard and pcb are keyed together.
Either you've spilled something sticky in the droor causing it to stick shut, or you have a bad tray motor. Check to see if the tray is clean and free of obstructions. If it is, you will need to replace the tray motor assy. Good luck!
If you here it spin up and it goes to open tray
you probley have a dead laser or hub/spindel motor. Its an easy swap for the laser. if the
spindel motor is weak ,your going to have to
replace the drive and swap the board.
Most likely it is your laser lense is dirty. Crack the case get in to the DVD drive open it. While in there give it a general cleaning then clean the laser lense with glass cleaner and a q-tip. Three other things to check. There are three motors in there one slides the tray in and out when you hit the eject button (small hole lower left of metal box under drive) another moves the laser when the tray moves back in you should see the laser move slightly and the lense bob up and down and light up, third is the spinner motor put and disc in the tray and close the tray the disc should spin up if it doesn't then the motor is bad. If all these things have work ok put it back together and test it out.
It sounds like you will need a drvie replacement or motor. Sometimes the magnetic disc on the motor comes loose and it sticks to the top of the dvd drive cover and causes it to not function. We can fix this for you if your interested email us. email@example.com
