Singer facilita 2405 foot pedal burnt out

I have a singer 2405 that used to have a treadle function, but also has an electric foot - this has packed up big time and is wired into the machine and not on a plug in. Can I get a new foot and how would I attach it - is it safe to do it myself if I follow instructions to the letter

It would really be a good idea to have a sewing machine shop replace
the foot pedal that way you can have a plug in put on the machine
that way it would be safer to use.

More than likely you need a pneumatic transducer. It's the part that your air tube connects to and that is what actually makes your machine run.

SOURCE: Manual for 1908 singer sewing machine

Hi Lorraine
I too have an old treadle machine . What my Dad did for me was go to a Harness repair shop and have them cut a piece of narrow leather and that became my belt, take it home and and replace the belt you now have or you can shorten the one you do have , but not too snug, around the wheels , need a bit of slack,,, join the 2 ends together by using a shape needle or whatever it takes to make the hole in the ends of the leather and use a fine strong wire to fasten the ends to meet, looks rough but it works.

SOURCE: How to attach a quilt guide

You have to unscrew the screw for the presser foot first. The walking foot will then fit. Use the same screw to attach the walking foot. Before you insert the screw, take the white handle on the walking foot and slide it on the screw arm for the needle. Now tighten the screw.

Foot pedal not working

Well, you are definitely getting power from the electric plug in.

Let's do some diagnostic work. Do you hear anything when you press the foot pedal? Any hum? Did you happen to leave it in bobbin winding mode?

your machine doesn't have a "sew" button for use without the pedal. So please rotate the hand wheel toward you as you press the pedal. Did the motor take over and sew?

If you know someone with a meter... have them test the pedal. (they will place probes on/in the part that plugs in which tests for shorts, etc.) If that tests ok... then we know it's something more than the pedal and it will need servicing by a Singer Tech.

The cord drives the machine from the foot peddle.

There is no "belt" size. You need to measure the distance with some yarn and buy some leather treadle machine belt. There are a few vendors on ebay. The machines had a "staple" of sorts that would hold the treadle belts together that might be hard to find.

All power and motor seems ok but needle shaft doesn't respond to foot pedal ... nothing happens! Help! Can't find model number but it is electric Singer 70/80's

It is probably the foot pedal. There should be a plate that gives the model # and Serial #. You can call Singer at 1-800-4singer and order or go on their site and find it by serial #. There are also sites
like www.sewingpartsonline.com and see how much a universal foot pedal is and go from there. Usually, they are about $30.

Just bought a used model singer 6233 need to know where foot pedal plugs in

The Singer 6233 was one of the models that briefly were made using air-powered foot controls. So you aren't looking for a traditional electrical connection. Instead, your pedal cord's female end will connect onto a black male nipple, that sticks out on the right side of the machine (the side with the handwheel). Just push it on until it feels snug.
