HOW DO I TEST MY SKILSAW HD77M ARMATURE

To fully test the armature you need to remove it and use a bit of kit called a 'growler'. Most powertool service shops (especially manufacturer approved ones) will have one of these. You can get a fair idea form a couple of visual inspections too though.
It is best to remove the motor housing so you can see the rear of the armature clearly (the commutator). First of all though, before you completely remove the motor housing you will need to remove the brushes. The running faces of the brushes should be nice and smooth, if they are pitted and and rough looking across the entire running face then this shows that the motor has been sparking too much and the armature is most likely to be faulty. If the running faces of them is only pitted and dull halfway across this would indicate that the field coil is faulty and would need replacing. Once you have checked this, if you want to double check the armature, you should continue to remove the motor housing. the field coil will usually stay inside the housing when you remove it which is good as it means you don't have to disconnect any wires. You need to visually inspect the copper segments at the end of the armature (the commutator). All the segments should be of a similar colour and not too dark, although there will be carbon 'burnt' onto them. The gaps between each segment should be pretty much straight and all the same between each bar. If an armature is shorting out you will normally find a couple f the segments have started to raise slightly. These segments will have an abnormal gap between them and be darker or appear mire burned than the others. If they all seem fine, the only other check you can do on an armature is with a growler so you would have to get in touch with your nearest repair shop and see if they can help you.

Ryobi 7-1/4 in. laser circular saw will not turn on when it is plugged in.

Same problem with mine but I.found a guy's blog on google and he had identical problem and found the "pre travel switch," that they saw fit to put in the saw was the culprit. It's not a typical switch and has issues making contact often times (Ryobi are you listening?) He was able to take it apart and make a adj/repair (instructions he provides on blog) but who knows how long it will last? Here's the link:)-> http://www.woodtalkonline.com/topic/9508-ryobi-circular-saw-broken-and-fixed/

The blade is turning backwards

That is physically not possible!

1. immediatelly switch off saw
2. remove cord from the plug
3. remove blade from machine
4. reverse blade 180degree and install it in direction of the rotation! if you look at saw from the blade side, rotation is clockwise!!! and cutting edge of teh teeth should point clockwise!
5. install and tighten the blade
6. plug in and switch in short burst only, check if it is rotating in proper direction and blade have teeth in proper direction
7. make test cut

Do not forget that this is not a toy, blade on circular saw cut through wood, metal and your fingers... always wear googles or eye/face protection shield, you have only two eyes and no spares...

Enjoy your woodworking experience! Always observe safety and machine rules.

Hope this allow you to fix the problem. Please leave note how did you go.

How do you put the DeWalt DW367 circular saw back in its case??

Just figured it out ourselves: with case open and facing you, place the saw in, blade facing you. It needs to go down at an angle so the "leveler" is resting on the tlted portion of the case. Make sure the cord isn't hanging out.......took us about 1/2 hour to do it. Ours was a dewalt 368; next time we'll take a pic before taking tools out of their cases! hope this helps.

Ryobi circular saw --it keeps tripping my breaker

Possible bad circuit breaker. If on a ground fault sensing circuit, the saw may have electrical leakage from it's internal wiring/motor to case ground (a possible problem if you have been using a metal cutting blade)(test by using a 3-pin to 2-pin adapter [no ground pin]). The circuit breaker may not be rated for the starting load of the saw (check the saw load rating against the breaker current rating--the breaker rating should be at least 25% higher). Possible excess current draw in the saw if any of the motor windings have shorted together for whatever reason. Hope this helps!

I'm trying to change the blade on a Makita compound saw - the LS 1220

I had the blade changed but it was going "in and out" in a rhythmic fashion and I couldn't figure out why. I finally realized I had installed it BACKWARDS - the teeth were facing the wrong way. I might have realized this sooner but I hadn't tried to cut anything - the noise and visual was so alarming that I just shut it off (fortunately).
