If your PSU starts (fan is spinning) you can test it with voltmeter. to check voltages for motherboard do next:
1. take PSU out of case
2. put power cable in
3. with some wire connect green and any black on MB connector on PSU (20/24 pins)
4. fan should start spinning
5. use voltmeter to check voltages

this is just basic. real PSU test is when you have device that will burden PSU while testing...

How to test the electrical system of the generator for free

Ez test to determine if stator wiring is ok. This test works on generators that have two sets of 115v plugs and 220v plug. Use a 12v, 1amp ac power supply ( smaller ac power supply should work ok ). With generator not running, apply 12v to one of the 115v outlet plugs. Now verify 12v output voltage with meter at another 115v outlet on generator. Also verify that there is about twice the voltage at the 220 v outlet plug (should be about 20v - 24v) . If the adjoining 115 v outlet plug has no output or very little voltage or if the 220 volt plug has no output, most likely stator is damaged or breaker is off. If the stator is shorted voltage reading will be very low and power supply will heat up. If stator is open, there will be no voltage at second 115v plug or 220 v plug. If voltage is ok at the other outlet plugs as per test above then most likely problem is with voltage regulator, or brushes not making contact or armature winding open or just needs to be energized. Unplug the 12v power supply after test to prevent it from overheating. Most generators have two 115v windings that together power the 220v plug. When you energize one of the windings with the 12v power supply, the second 115v winding will be energized also and give you a voltage reading about equal to 12v. You will not damage the generator with this small voltage being input thru the plug. Good luck

How to test the 4 output powersupply on the un55b8500 led tv

First, inspect the electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board. The top of a burned-out capacitor is often domed instead of flat. You may measure proper voltage with no load, but the bad capacitor will not support a load. (Note: the voltages are usually printed on the board next to the output connector.) The page linked below includes a nice illustration of both good and bad capacitors. Also, check the LED driver board for the same problem. If you don't see anything like that, add a comment to the post to that effect, and we'll look at other possibilities.

Virea tv has just stopped working. Whilst watching it has switched itself off and there is no standby light or anything. All power cords and supplies are fine but it won't switch back on.

Good day!Follow this D.I.Y procedures to find the exact problem of your TV.
  1. Remove the back cover of your TV.
  2. After that, find the power supply board.
  3. If you already found the power supply,plug-in your TV and power it ON.Check the input voltage of it,using multimeter (AC range). If the power supply have no input voltage the problem could be the power cord.Replace it.
  4. If the power supply have the input voltage, try to test the output voltage if have 5vdc for the system and logic supply,12vdc for the sounds and 24vdc for the back-light inverter.Use your multimeter tester (DC range) to test that.
  5. If the power supply have a voltage outputs such as 5vdc,12vdc and 24vdc and the problem is still there. The problem could be the main board.Replace it with the same type and model # because the main board is no very difficult to fix and its very sensitive.
  6. If the power supply have no output voltage or the voltage is too low, just ignore the step # 5 because the problem is not on the main board, its on the power supply board.
Check the following to fix the power supply board:
  • Fuse: Check the fuse if it is busted or blown.
  • Power transistor (regulator): Check the regulator if it is shorted or leak.
  • Resistor: Check the resistors specially the one that have a low resistance that near the power regulator.
  • Capacitor: Also check the capacitors if it is leak or bulging top.
NOTE: If you found any defective parts or components that mention above replace it with the same value, type and ratings.

I hope this solution will be helpful.Thank you and good luck.

It takes atleast 3 tries before the 37 in led turns on

A pleasant and good day!

The problem could be the power supply.
That problem is usually happen when the output voltage of the power supply got a voltage drop or fluctuation.

This is the procedure on how to fix that problem:
  1. Remove the back cover of your TV.
  2. Plug-in the power cord of your TV and power it ON to perform a voltage data or voltage check.
  3. Test the output voltage of the power supply.Use a multimeter (DC range) then check the 5vdc for the system and logic supply.
  4. If the 5vdc got a voltage drop when you power ON the TV.There's a leak or bulge on top capacitor on your power supply unit, replace it!

My red standby light is off, checked the cord, had a power surge recently?

Good day.

This is the D.I.Y steps for troubleshooting.
  1. Open the back cover of your TV by removing all screws.
  2. Power ON the TV to perform a voltage data.
  3. Check the input voltage of power supply. It should have a 120 or 240 volts ac depends on the voltage supply from your power source. If none replace the power cord or check the main source.
  4. If you have input voltage in the power supply, check the output voltage on the power supply. It should have 5vdc,for the system board,12vdc,for the sound and 24vdc,for the back-light inverter.
  5. If you don't have output voltage from power supply board.Unplug the power cord first to check the fuse if busted, check some transistors and diodes if shorted, check some open/change value resistor and also look for leak/bulge on top capacitor.
  6. If you found any of the defective parts that mention on the step # 5 replace it with the same type and ratings.
  7. After that, try plug-in again the power cord then test the output voltage that mention on step #4.
Thank you for using FixYa and good luck.I hope this solution helps you.

No power even if I plug my DVD to power source

Good day.

Follow this procedure for trouble shooting.

  1. Remove the cover of your DVD player.Loosening all screw.
  2. Check the input voltage of the power supply 220v/120v AC.If don't have input supply that comes from the ac cord, replace it.
  3. If you have a input voltage supply comes from the power cord.Check the output voltage of the power supply such as 5vdc and 12vdc.
  4. If the you don't have output voltage from the power supply.Check the fuse if busted, check open/change value of capacitor, check power transistor (regulator)if shorted and leak/bulging top capacitor of the power supply board. If you found any defective parts replace it.
  5. If you have output voltage comes from the power supply. The problem could be the main board, replace it.
  6. If you already done this procedure, test it by power ON the DVD player.

I hope this information will be helpful.Thank you and good luck.

Hi. There was a power outage, now when I start my PC it just goes on for 5 sec's then shutdown.

I just replaced a power supply for someone whose house was close to a lightning stike. Although the power ma seem to come on a short in any of the outputs can render your computer unusable and could potentailly short out your motherboard too. If you have the ability to test the output voltages of your power supply here is a link to ATX power supply pinout voltages. Click HERE.
