Question about Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Nikkor Lens

1 Answer

I have a month old lens paired with a D7000 that recently developed this problem. When I view the data on a photo it indicates the lens was at 200mm, even when it was not. Since the lens is only capable of f-5.6 at 200mm, this means that even at 18mm I cannot get the f-stop lower than 5.6, since the camera still believes it's at 200mm. One thing I did find was that if I zoom out to 200mm, then auto focus, then go back to 18mm, the camera will then believe it is at 24mm (and therefore f3.8 instead of 3.5) Auto focus has some difficulty when at 18mm but none at 200. I tried the lens on another camera and the same problem occurred. I tried a good lens on the D7000 and there was no problem so I'm sure it is the lens.

Developed film pictures have black around the edges

My guess would be that whatever lens your using is causing that. The black edges are basically caused because the lens may not be fit the camera correctly, causing the camera to "see" part of the lens itself when taking a photo.

Go here: C:\Document
s and Settings\[username]\Application Data\EPSON\ESCNDV\ES0058

and delete any image files in that folder. The last folder might have a different number depending on your scanner. It should start working again.

If you can't see that folder - click on My Computer - in the menu click on Tools and select 'Folder options..." Click on tab 'View' and select 'Show hidden files and folders'

You should now be able to see 'Application Data' in Docs and Settings...
