You have a bad gas valve For that one specific burner. The valve is located right behing the selecter knob. You have to take all the knobs off and removve that plate to access them. You will see a switch. Remove the switch and right there is your valve. You need to turn both power and gas off when doing this repair.

i am sorry you have an electric stove and the surface burner will not go to a low setting? if this is the case you have a bad thermistate. you have different thermistates for each burner remove the consol and replace the thermistate

Should the lower oven heating element heat all the way around? The heating element in my oven only heats and glows red on the front and two sides, The rear part of the element never glows red.

This is probably normal. the element has a fine wire inside the tube that you see and depending on where it starts in the tube it will start glowing from there.

I have a hotpoint electric stove. The element glows underneath the cook top and then goes dark, then glows again. It repeats this process. Is something wrong is is this normal. I bought it used.

This is all normal. The element is turning on and off as determined by the temperature setting you have chosen. When nothing is on the cooktop, it will heat up up very quickly, and shut off. As soon as the temperature drops the thermostat senses this and applies power to turn the element on again. This rapid cycle repeats over and over.

If you place a pot, skillet, pan, etc. with water, in it - and do this again, you'll see that the on / off cycle is slowed. It stays on longer as the water absorbs the heat much more slowly than an empty pot (or cooktop with nothing on it) so it takes longer for the thermostat to see the rising temperature. Once it is at the desired temperature, the heat in the water takes longer to cool, so the element stays off longer.

You'll see the element turn on and off even when the water hasn't gotten hot all the way because the element makes heat much faster than the water can absorb it.

Large burner glows red hot even its set on medium

could be one of two possibilities...1..could be a faulty infinite switch. or 2...a faulty element. If you replace both at same time, should be ok.

The right front burner will not get hot. It is only warm never hot. The burner doesn't turn bright red even when tuned up on high.

hello, try changing that front element(burner)if its easily removable to another side that is working normal. If the element is still dull not heating or glowing normal then replace the element, but if it does, then there is something wrong with the front right element switch or the receptacle.

What do you mean by, "properly"?
Is it heating or not at all?
Is it not hot enough, or too hot?
Upper element is for broil. It may come on briefly during bake, but usually at half power. It doesn't glow red.
Does the bottom element glow red? If not, inspect lower element, which is the bake element, for pits and rough spots. These may be signs of failure.
UNPLUG STOVE!! Remove bake element and check for continuity. If it shows open, replace. You can probably take to parts store and they can test it for you.
