SOURCE: I have a Dell 1525 laptop and when powering up,

It depends on the beeping noise you hear. If it beeps short but continuouse then it is probably power problem possibly the battery. You can use a guide to the beeps to determine what exaclty is causing the probpem it might well be the hard drive is gone.

above is a service manual, this has everything you need to troubleshoot, & repair.
I suspect, the Inverter for the screen, is flakey, you most likely will need to attend to that. But work through the troubleshooting in the manual, and you will soon sort iy.

SOURCE: I keep getting a beep when I turn the computer on....black screen...and nothing

If the computer is out of warranty, you dont have anything to loose. Have the northbridge and video chips re-flowed. You can do this using a heat gun, but
you have to be very careful not to destroy your board. This is a similar problem that XBOX360 owners were having with the red ring of death. These boards run very hot and over time and many cycles of heating up and cooling off the
chipsets separate from the mainboard and your computer becomes useless.
I dont have a board in front right now but if my memory serves me right place
the board in front of you so the hard drive connections are on the left side of
the board and the CPU socket is facing up. the 2 chips you want to work on
are just to the right of the CPU socket and just above the CPU socket. Be
sure to remove the CPU before you put any heat on these chips. Use circular
motions with the heat gun on HIGH. You may need to get some flux to put around each chip before doing this, but in my case I didnt have to. There was plenty there already. Computer worked for about 6-7 months after my fix and then needed the same repair again. If you want to see this done there are a lot of videos on the XBOX360 being done on youtube so to kinda give you an idea of how to do it. Might not be worth the trouble and you might be better off parting out the machine and just buy another one. Its all up to you, I hope this helps
I just bought a new system

Try link: http://blog.parts-people.com/2014/06/27/dell-inspiron-m501r-m5010-beep-codes-diagnostic-indicators-2/ How to identify beep codes: When a laptop or computer first powers on, it goes through an initial set of diagnostic tests to make sure vital components are preforming correctly. These tests are called POST or Power On Self Test. When a test fails, the user is notified via POST codes, Light codes, or Beep codes. For diagnosing Beep codes you need to:
  • Power on the laptop or restart it if it is already on.
  • Listen to the number of consecutive beeps when the computer begins to boot. Restarting the laptop may be necessary and should not harm the laptop at this time.

Dell Vostro 1000 Bios - Flash Failure

I attempted to update the BIOS on my Vostro 1000 to cure the bad battery message. My original BIOS was 2.6.1 and I intended to update to 2.6.3.

I could not flash under Windows 7 so I installed XP but the flash failed half way through.and the computer did not power up again. All that happened after I pressed the power switch was the light came on and the CD drive shuffled a couple of times. No screen illumination.

Various posts were scanned but no solution found until my buddie came up with the following sequence.

Get the file posted in this link on a computer running XP

http://hotfile.com/dl/113520903/05689ed/VOSTRO1000_CRISDISK.ZIP.html

To Create a Crisis Recovery USB you must use a Win XP system
Note: Running XP through compatibility more in Win 7 will not work

1. Insert Blank USB Drive

2. Open "CRISDISK" folder

3. Open "WINCRIS" application

4. It should detect the USB Drive

5. Click "Start" Button WINCRIS should create the USB recovery drive

6. For Crisis recover, be sure to Power drain system.
. A. Remove Battery
. B Depress power button for 10-15 sec.

7. Insert USB drive into USB port of the Dell.

8. Hold END button while plugging in power cord in system

9. Continue to hold END and depress and release the system power button.

10. Continue holding END until USB drive begins to flash and a single beep is heard.

11. System may remain blank as it enters recovery mode - Anoying Beeping will be heard - Beeping will stop and FANS will function Another series of Beeps will be heard

12. System should complete recovery in 5-10 min. If system has not powered down in 15 min, power down by pressing the power button

This worked for me and as a bonus I do not have the battery error message anymore.

I guess you can't go into start button. /anyway how did you know if computing is powered? On your keyboard top line keys have screen control keys for brightness etc.eg f4. try.

Dell Inspiron 15R 7 beeps of death

Your best bet is to contact DELL themselves. There may have been a silent recall for your product which you don't know about, and they might repair it at their cost, But with this kind of situation, always go to the manufacturer first.

Dell inspiron 1545 14 beeps (more details inside).

This indicates a motherboard issue, sub out the ram memory one at a time, test each as you go, if no change! The motherboard will need to be replaced, or the laptop.
