Hi there

It's important to see if you still have a wireless connection... start finding out in a couple of ways.

Go into Control Panel, Network connections, you should see the Wireless Connection listed.
Then check the status, it may be disabled. If so, right click it and select "Enable".

Also check if the wireless indicators on the laptop show it's on. There may be a switch on the laptop which turns on the wireless card.

Lastly, check if there's a problem with the wireless card:
In Control Panel, select Performance and Maintenance, then System. Select the "Hardware" tab, then open Device Manager. If there's a problem with the wireless card there will be an exclamation mark by it. If so you may need to reinstall the wireless card.

If you want more help please tell me the make and model of the laptop.

Wifi radio enabled, but icon shows that it's disabled

If you can connect to the internet don't worry about it.

Do you have more than one wireless applications to use to get on the internet? Maybe the one you are not using is the one with the X across it. If you just put your mouse pointer on the one with the X on it, the system will tell you what application it is. If it's not the one you use to connect with, that's why the X never changes.

Have an acer Aspire One netbook and for some reason I cannot connect to the internet even though it is saying that a wifi connection has been established. This has never happened before

If you are connecting on an open WiFi (does not have WEP or WPA enabled), then make sure you are connected to the correct SSID (wireless ID) and not on some other open SSID. If you are on the right SSID, check that you don't have limited connectivity due to low signal strength. If OK, then open Internet Explorer to use its Diagnose Connection Problems tool...
1. click on Tools tab
2. click on Diagnose Connection Problems...
3. click on Next button and follow the steps
If unsuccessful, try powering off the wireless router and the cable/dsl modem for a few minutes and then powering up the modem first followed by the wireless router. Once the netbook has re-established the WiFi connection, repeat the above procedure to Diagnose Connection Problems. Finally, if still unseccessful, connect directly to your wireless router using an ethernet cable from one of the four RJ-45 LAN ports on the router to the netbook's 10/100 ethernet RJ-45 port on its left side. A LAN connection icon should now show in the bottom right of the Desktop's Toolbar. Hovering the mouse cursor over it shows the Local Area Connection pop-up with Speed and Status. If Status is connected, then open Internet Explorer again and use its Diagnose Connection Problems tool to check connectivity to the internet. If still unresolved, the next step would be to log into the router to check its WAN status and depending on the results, you may have to contact your Internet Service Provider.

I am connected to my home wireless, but cannot go=et to the internet

I had this problem on my Sylvania 7" Netbook as well. Here's the deal. First you should restart your computer. Then you should click the Wifi Power icon on your desktop. As you may know, from here you double click the wireless connections icon in the toolbar (bottom right corner). From there you select your connection (I'm assuming that it has a wireless key that needs to be typed in) and uncheck the box that says something like "Auto Key Provided." From there you should be able to type in your key and connect!

Let me know if this helps!
