Welcome to Fixya

There is another way to enable/disable the wireless network card. Look for wireless icon on the F keys (F1, F2 etc) of your keyboard. It looks like a tower that has a signal. Mine is F8 key. To enable the wireless, just press Fn key + the key that has wireless icon.

How do I switch my connection from wireless to LAN on my Lenovo Y570 laptop computer when I plug in my ethernet cord?

It will automatically pull an IP address when you plug in a LAN cable just disable or turn off your wireless. There should be either a switch to turn off your wi-fi or use your function keys to turn it off. Another option would be double click on the two monitors and globe icon in your bottom right hand corner of your screen and choose disconnect.

The problem is that the "inverter" inside the LCD screen has failed.

It's about a $20 part to replace, but I recommend that you take the computer to a qualified technician for proper disassembly/repair/reassembly/testing of the LCD.

make sure that the linksys VOIP(secure) router is broadcasting it's SSID or signal, otherwise it will not reflect even if you refresh the wireless network. If the router is broadcasting SSID but the lenovo laptop is not detecting it, try to re-install the wireless software for the laptop using the software from lenovo.com, just click Support then Downloads and drivers.
