Question about Canon MF4150 Laser Printer

1 Answer

Campatibility with MacBook

Is the MF4100 able to be used on Apple computers.  I know the manual states that  windows is needed.  so does that rule out Apple computers?

You can get most printers to work on an apple, the unix based operating system is a great help, the oddly named gimp print facility is pretty well universal, is the laser usb? if it is the windows parallel you can get adapters cheaply on eBay. Have you gone through the selection process?I just checked and it is supported by apple, it went wrong after the update 10.6, canon claim to have the driver for october.

Apple's support site would be the best place to look for the firmware that you would need to get compatibility with that media. Although, you might want to look into getting a different brand of media. Usually the more renown the name brand, the better compatibility there is. For example, Maxell, and memorex would have better compatibility over magnavox.

Also, I would recommend that if you can not find the firmware on apple's site, try googling the firmware, (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=macbook+drive+firmware)
For better results you will need to know what exact type of MacBook you have, basically what processor your MacBook uses.

How can I use my Dell 720 printer with my Macbook Pro?

Nope, It will almost definitly not work with your macbook. I have a macbook pro and a dell photo printer and there is no way I could get them working together. Dell does not seem to care about mac users. The installation CD for their printers do NOT work with mac os, only windows. An apple rep advised me to try using some of the laptops built in drivers, but i still couldnt get it to work. Short answer, maybe give it a try before buying another printer, but most likely you are not gonna be able to use your dell printer with the macbook. sorry, I wish dell would change their position on this issue as well.

I just purchased a macbook pro computer and need to try to connect it to my dell 968w wireless printer. I can't find the cd. Is there something I can download or do to make this printer connect to my new...

The above link says that there are drivers for windows 7 and Vista only.

It seems to me that you could contact Apple about this connectivity issue if Dell doesn't support Apple.

However, it may that since it is not supported by Dell, specifically, then it may be something that you can't do.

I would hope that Dell would make their printer compatible with the Apple Platform.

What have you tried to connect from the macbook pro to the wifi enabled printer?

My printer wont turn on

Dear Sir,

If your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps:
  1. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a working wall outlet, and that it's properly connected to the power adapter. (To check if the wall socket is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.)
  2. Make sure that the power adapter is properly connected to the power port on the back of the computer.
  3. Disconnect all accessories that are plugged into the computer, such as a printer, hub, or iPod.
  4. Reset the computer's PMU, SMC, or PRAM. Refer to the instructions for your model:
  5. Try plugging a different power cord into the computer (if you have a working one available). If the computer starts up, replace the old power cord.
  6. If the computer uses a power adapter, try connecting a different power adapter to the computer (if you have a working one available). If the computer starts up, replace the old power adapter. (Computers that use a power adapter include MacBook, MacBook Pro, iBooks, PowerBooks, Power Mac G4 Cube, and Mac mini.)
  7. If you tried all of the steps above and the computer still won't turn on, contact Apple technical support (1-800-APL-CARE in the U.S.) or take your computer to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using

Thanks For Your Time,

Macbook goes to sleep and doesn't wake up unless I do a hard reboot.

I have seen this caused by having a mouse plugged into mine. I have removed the mouse and touch the touchpad and it has come up from sleep.

That very well may not be your problem.

Here is the procedure that is recommend from Apple to help with the not waking from sleep problem. I included both methods as it is not clear which macbook you have. I also included the link to the article at the bottom.

The System Management Controller is an integrated circuit (computer chip) that is on the logic board of the computer. As the name implies, it is responsible for power management of the computer. It controls backlighting, hard disk spin down, sleep and wake, some charging aspects, trackpad control, and some input/output as it relates to the computer sleeping.

Over time, the settings in the System Management Controller may become unusable, which can result in operational anomalies with the computer. Examples include not turning on, not waking from sleep, not charging the battery, or not recognizing the AC Adapter, among others.

MacBook (13 inch, Late 2008), MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2008), and MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2008)
  1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the computer's battery.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
  4. Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
  5. Press the power button to restart the computer
Note: Starting with MacBook Pro (Late 2008) and MacBook (Late 2008) models, you may instead use the reset method for MacBook Air (below) to reset the SMC. All earlier models of MacBook and MacBook Pro must use the method described above, which involves removing the battery.
MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (Late 2008 and later)
  1. If the computer is on, turn it off by choosing Shutdown from the Apple () menu.
  2. Connect the power adapter to a working power source.
  3. On the built-in keyboard, press (left) Shift-Control-Option along with the power button once.
  4. Wait 5 seconds and press the power button to start the computer.
Note: You must use the keys on the left side of the built-in keyboard.

My lexmark x3350 prints very slowly.

Ruled out the printer right there when you said Apple. The apple computer may not have the cabatiablity for this computer on the way it handles on the USB port. Id your apple USB 2.0 what version? Try it again on a PC if it works then we needs to diagnose the apple.

Can't print from MacBook, through Time Capsule, to Lexmark x5470

turn on the printer sharing via the system preference panel on the computer that is on the system via usb.
Then on your wifi computer look for shared printers and you'll see your printer in the list under the host computer name... use that setting and it should fire up for you!
let me know how it goes...
