Try downloading the latest WEBcam driver.
Download the drivers from the Acer WEB site. Make sure youselect the model of your laptop and the XP or Vista version of the drivers youthat require and it matches the Windows version that is installed on yourlaptop. Use this link to get to the Acer support: - http://www.acersupport.com/drivers_download.aspx
If you have a WEB camera you need to configure your video Webcam settings. Open Skype click on Tools - Options - Video Settings - select your Webcam model.
When you open Skype click on Tools - Options - Audio Settings and click on Microphone and select the microphone you are using and save the setting. If you still have problems with your mic. then - To test if the microphone is working, go to Start - Programs - Accessories - Entertainment - Sound Recorder and record you voice. Can you see your voice recording, the green line should vary as you speek. If you see a flat green line, then the microphone is either faulty or the wrong microphone is selected.
As you mentioned that you have downgraded to windows xp, did you change the sata operations to ATA mode from AHCI mode in bios before installing XP? If you have done this then try and reinstall webcam driver and also the audio driver. If possible get into device manager to check if all drivers are working fine.
First, make sure you have a webcam with a microphone, and run any test software the webcam came with to check and make sure it is *supposed* to work. Next, open SOUND PROPERTIES through the CONTROL PANEL and then from the menu go to ADVANCED and RECORDING and OKAY, to bring up a volume array that includes the control MICROPHONE. Then, dig around to make sure MICROPHONE is the input being selected for amplification, and try ADVANCED on MICROPHONE and turn on BOOST if it has this control. You can test whether all of this worked by opening SOUND RECORDER from ACCESSORIES and making a short recording of yourself cursing the machine and everyone who designs them. If it plays back normally, try your web camera again. If it still has no sound, the problem is in the settings of the web camera itself. Open whatever software it came with and check setting like MUTE and MICROPHONE VOLUME are set correctly.
