Try a cold start, unplug, remove battery, hold down on/off button for 10 seconds, replace battery, plugin, push on/off button, try to start normally. If that fails do a system resotre/ recovery.

SOURCE: Toshiba Satellite P105-S6084 Laptop Boot Problems.

Hello,
This happens sometimes due to faulty memory or faulty software that causes errors in filesystem. You need to obtain a Windows XP with the correct edition that is installed and boot into it. Then go into Recovery Console and wait for the c: prompt asking which windows you want to log into. Select 1 for C: windows. Then it will ask you for the administrator password. Enter it or press enter if there is no password. Type chkdsk c: /r at the c:\windows prompt and leave to run. It will take about 15 -30 mins. When finished, type exit and press enter. Press ctrl+alt+del to restart computer.
If problem is fixed, computer should start up fine now.

If you still have the problem, let me know so we can try something else.

Thanks,
Lolita

The first thing I would do is run the onboard diagnostics for the computer. You do this by hitting f12 on your keyboard at startup. Then you will see the boot menu. The last option should be the diagnostics. After you run this if you get any errors I would call Dell support about them as you have a hardware problem.

If you do not get any errors then most likely you have a Windows problem. The first thing I would do is boot the computer into safemode. You do this by hitting f8 on the keyboard when you first turn on your computer. Once in safemode then open of the properties on your C: drive and go to the Tools tab. Next click the Check Now button. Make sure both check boxes are check and click start. Note you may need to restart your computer.

After this runs you need to boot your computer into Windows. Note if you still have trouble you may need to go to safemode again. Once you are in Windows put in your Windows CD and exit out of the installer if it pops up. Next go to Start and Run, then type "SFC /scannow". This will run a repair on the system files. If you still have trouble after this you may need to look at reinstalling Windows.

Hope this helps

Boot to Safe Mode, by pressing F8 during boot. Then try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

Remove all USB attached devices like drives.
You may need to roll back system with System Restore. Under Safe Mode (press F8 during boot and choose Safe Mode).

Win 7 - Start > Search type System Restore.
XP - Is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates.
Uninstall last program(s) that was installed, again in safe mode.

Wont boot in safe mode

start your laptop before booting windows press f8 button continuously

ndows 2000 / XP users

bulb.gif If you are running Safe Mode because you cannot get into Windows, you may want to first try loading the last known good configuration.

To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

Note: With some computers, if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.

Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe mode - If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe Mode as the computer is booting into Windows, turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the Safe Mode screen.

Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode

Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.

Once you're done in Safe mode if you want to get back into Normal Windows restart the computer like you normally would and let it boot normally. Click here to get additional information about getting out of Safe mode.

Window 7 every 20 minutes hang

Many things could be causing this, the first thing I would do is boot into safe mode and see if the issue continues.
Safe Mode

Just before the Windows 7 splash screen (black with windows logo) appears, press the F8 key to enterAdvanced Boot Options.

You should now see the Advanced Boot Options screen. If not, you may have missed the short window of opportunity to press F8 in the previous step and Windows 7 is probably now continuing to boot normally assuming it's able to. If this is the case, just restart your computer and try pressing F8 again.

Here you are presented with three variations of Windows 7 Safe Mode you may enter:

  • Safe Mode - This is the default option and is usually the best choice. This mode will load only the absolute minimum processes necessary to start Windows 7.

Laptop won't reboot

are you trying to put win 10 on as it can do this some time, can take upto 10 15 min to load, when the like is flashing its dos, when the screen is black its windows it takes some time for windows to find a driver and load it so the screen comes up. i've had this on a200's before. if you keep rebooting you will need to wipe the hard drive and start again. this also does this on win 7 and 8. win xp it does not do this as its full dos setup .

Problem restarting, "press r"

  1. Start the laptop
  2. when the logo screen turns black start pressing F8 a few times.
  3. A Windows Boot Options screen should show on the screen
  4. If you see the Windows Logo (the normal thing when Windows loads, then press reset and try again
  5. At the Windows Boot Options screen select "Last known good configuration" and press Enter twice
It "should" now load normally, if not then..
  1. Replace step 5 above with "Safe Mode" and see if that loads all the way through. If so, then restart and see if its OK now.
If not, then post back with any error messages and we can look at something else.
