Turn your steeing to neutral position
turn off vehicle
remove 15 amp sir fuse in the interior fuse panel
under the sterring column there's a 2 pin yellow wire, remove the safety clip holding it together and disconnect the wire
remove the center (horn) cover of the steering wheel
turn your vehicle on (there's will be a warning light, ignore it, it's because you disconnected the electrical) and rotate your steering 90 degrees to access the leaf spring from behind the wheel, stick in a screw driver to loosen the leaf spring
turn the wheel 180 degrees to access the other part of the leaf spring and your bag should pop out
disconnect the 2 wire connector for the module itself

reinstalling it is the oposite, just press in the air bag module careful not to pinch any wires

NOTE> connect the wires when the vehicle is off

here's the steering wheel with the holes for the access to the leaf spring retainer

How to remove the key switch from a 1994 suburban

Under the steering wheel you will see some deep recessed holes, and those will have hex style screws in them which hold the top and bottom halves of the plastic cover together around the steering column. Once you remove those three or four screws, you can take off the cover and get to the ignition switch. if you look closely at the area right around the ignition switch you will see a small hole or recessed spot where you can take a screw driver and depress a small pin and it will let the whole ignition cylinder to slide right out.

How to remove top plate on steering column the flasher switch is on top and to fix the problem i have to remove the steering column. i can not get the top of the steering column off.

there are a couple of screws that hold the lower part of the cover to the upper part. Remove those and remove the lower cover. There will then be two male torx screws that hold the upper cover in place just behind the steering wheel (look up under the column and you should see them on either side of the column). Once those two are removed the upper cover will come off.

  2. Remove the column-to-dash attaching bolts and slowly lower the steering column, making sure that it is supported.
  3. Remove the multifunction switch if necessary.
  4. Remove the key alarm switch, if equipped by gently prying the alarm switch retaining clip with a small screwdriver. Rotate the alarm switch 1 / 4 in. (6mm) turn and remove.
WARNING Extreme care is necessary to prevent damage to the collapsible column.
  1. Make sure that the switch is in the LOCK position. If the lock cylinder is out, pull the switch rod up to the stop, then go down one detent.
  2. Remove the two screws and the switch.
To install:
  1. Before installation, make sure the switch is in the LOCK position.
  2. Install the switch using the original screws. Tighten the screws to 12 inch. lbs. (1.4 Nm).
  3. Install the key alarm switch, if equipped . Make sure the retaining clip is parallel to the lock cylinder. Rotate the alarm switch 1 / 4 in. (6mm) turn until locked in place.
  4. Install the multifunction switch if removed.
CAUTION Use of screws that are too long could prevent the column from collapsing on impact.
  1. Replace the column. Tighten the nuts to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm); the bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  2. Install the column shroud halves.
Hope this helps and just keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

1996 saturn ignition burned up how do I replace it

Hello there, here are a few tips to guide you through.

  • Disconnect the negative battery connection cable from the battery terminal. Remove both the upper and lower steering column covers by either unscrewing them or unclipping them, depending on your car make and model. You may need to use a small pry bar to remove the upper and lower steering column covers, if so, use caution and take your time, you don't want to shatter or crack the plastic covers.
  • Remove the steering wheel cover and unscrew the steering wheel from the steering column, there should be six bolts securing it in place. Pull the steering wheel off the shaft slightly and make a mark on both the steering wheel and the shaft to make it easier to line up during the reassembly process. Disconnect the horn wire from the steering wheel by pulling on the boot --- not the wire itself --- to avoid any damage. Pull the steering wheel straight back and remove it entirely from the assembly.
  • Remove the spacer sleeve off the steering column. Remove the large center nut and washer from the steering column that secures the steering wheel adapter in place. Don't remove the steering wheel adapter until you have made a mark on it and the shaft so that you can properly realign them when reassembling. Gently remove the adapter by pulling straight back on it and set it aside.
  • Remove the three screws securing the stock in position. Remove the screws securing the plastic casing around the stock and take the casing off. Carefully pull the stock away from the steering column and gently guide the wires out until they have cleared the steering column, revealing the ignition switch assembly. You don't have to remove the wires from the stock; it's light enough to hang by the wires and not cause damage. Just pull out enough so that it's out of the way. In some cases, the stock will come apart in two pieces. If that's the case, slide off the first piece of the stock and unscrew the second piece, which is usually the piece that connects to your signal switch. Pull it off and bring it together with the first piece of the stock.
  • Remove the small plastic spacer collar around the steering column by gently prying it back inch by inch. Remove the Allen head bolt located on the underside of the steering column and pull back the assembly with the ignition switch. Unplug the wires from the back of the ignition switch and pull it away from the steering column.
  • Insert your key into the ignition and turn it to the locked position. Unscrew the small Phillips screw securing the ignition switch in the ignition switch assembly and slide it out. Put your new ignition switch into the ignition switch assembly and reassemble the entire steering system in the reverse order. Some ignition switch models will require you to depress a retaining pin with a small screwdriver while the key is in the locked position to remove it from the assembly. If your ignition switch is not secured with a small Phillips screw, look for the retaining pin.

Best of luck.

Remove ignition lock to switch link 1995 suburban

The ignition lock assembly contains two components: a lock cylinder to deter theft and an electrical portion that supplies power to electrical components such as the radio, electric windows, and windshield wipers. The electrical portion of the ignition switch also provides power to the starter motor to start the engine.
The ignition lock is an anti-theft device that prevents a vehicle from being driven unless the ignition key is in the ignition switch. If the ignition key is not in the ignition switch, it 's impossible to turn the steering wheel.
To replace the ignition switch cylinder lock, the trim panels around the steering wheel are removed. Then the tamper-proof hardware that attaches the ignition lock assembly to the steering column is removed. The ignition lock assembly is removed from the steering column, and the lock cylinder is replaced. The new ignition lock is reattached to the steering column, and the trim panels are replaced.make sure you dissconect battery first the 1997 had a recall on the ignition switch dont no if the 1995 had a recall if so they will replace for free

95 suburban, ignition locks, can't turn key,

Remove the lower steering column cover and check to see if the rod from the ign. lock and tumbler to the ignition switch is binding up. If it's ok, you're problem may be the bearing under the steering wheel being broken.
