First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa!

It depends on how you used the recovery disc that you have, reinstalling operating system will not take 23 hours just like what you said so there's a possibility that you're having problem with the Operating System on your computer. Unfortunately, Lenovo will not provide a product key for the Operating System since the an OEM version. What you can do is reinstall the Operating System using the One Key Recovery Sofware or the Recovery Disc that came with the computer. Follow these steps for you to be able to reinstall the Operating System using the One Key Recovery.

1. Turn off the computer.

2. Press the little button near the power button, it usually do have a drawing of an icon that looks like a horse shoe or a headset.

3. There will be a window that will appear which do have three option, One Key Antivirus, One Key Recovery and System Setup. Choose One key Recovery.

4. There will be another window that will appear which do have two option, Restore from initial backup and Restore from user backup,Choose Restore from initial back up

5. It will asked you if you want to continue, Just click on OK or YES.

6. Once done, Reboot the computer.

For Recovery Disc,

1. Insert the disc inside the drive.

2. Turn off the computer then turn it back on and keep on tapping F12

3. There will a window that will appear which do have three options, HDD,ODD/DVD/CD, and NAT, choose ODD/DVD/CD

4. It will asked you to press any key immediately, you will need to press any key immediately so that it will boot from ODD.

5. It will asked you to choose a partition, choose Disc 0 partition 1

6. Reboot computer once done.

I hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using FixYa...

I was trying to create the Recovery Management disk but everytime I try to burn the CD it keeps ejecting. I would really like it if you could provide some help. I recently bought this E-Machine computer...

Welcome to Fixya

Please see procedure below on how to create recovery disk. Let me know if smae thing will happen.

  • 1

Click the "Start" icon on the Windows Vista home screen. Select "eMachines," then click "eMachines Recovery Management." The eMachines Recovery Management program opens.

  • 2

Click "Create Factory Default Disc." The program will tell you how many discs you will need. Make sure the correct optical drive is selected, then insert a blank disc into that drive. Click "Start" to begin the burning process.

  • 3

Remove the disc when it is finished burning and label it "Recovery CD 1." Insert the next the next blank disc if one is required. Click "OK" to begin burning the next disc. Repeat this step until all of the discs have been created and labeled. Close the eMachines Recovery Management program, insert the system CD that came with the laptop and restart the laptop.

  • 4

Press "F12" repeatedly when the eMachines logo is displayed on the screen to be redirected to the Boot menu. Select the optical drive, then press "Enter."

  • 5

Insert Recovery CD 1 when you are prompted to insert the recovery disc. The eMachines Recovery Management program will open.

  • 6

Click the "Restore" tab in the list on the left side of the eMachines Recovery Management program window, then select "Completely Restore System to Factory Defaults." The computer automatically restarts and the recovery process begins. Insert any additional recovery discs as requested. The computer will reboot automatically when the laptop has been recovered to its original factory default settings, and you will be taken to the Windows Setup screen.

Set up Windows Vista with your own personal settings.

This means that the system is assuming you are doing a complete system restore to it's original set and condition. For this it will need to know where the restore backup files are kept for it to restore, this may be on a partition of your hard drive or on a backup disc that was supplied with the notebook, unless you were prompted to make a backup disc when youfirst booted up the notebook.
