Check the fuel line it could be pluged up. never leave gas in any thing when you put it up for the winter.

My troy built chipper shredder vacuum wont start. It has fresh gas, checked the spark plug and blew out the air filter. Any ideas?

If you have left it standing since last season without draining the old gas then its likely there is old gas residue left as a white crud in the carb. This has blocked one or both jets. If you undo the float bowl and its inside then get the carb cleaned out. You will need an airline.

If its been a while since you used it, most likely bad gas. Ethanol can pull water out of air, so there may be a little in the tank, also. Siphon it out & dispose of it properly. Get as much as you can out. There should be a little drain valve at the bottom of the carb. Drain it into a container. Put in fresh gas, make multiple attempts to start. This pulls fresh gas into carburetor. Also buy a new spark plug. Check for mouse nests around air intake (happened to me with a garden tractor). Check air filter, replace if it looks dirty. Buy a can of carburetor cleaner, follow directions. That covers all the possibilities, I think. BTW, to prevent future bad gas problems, don't just turn off the engine unless you plan to use the machine again soon. Turn off the fuel valve and let engine run out of gas. That keeps old gas from leaving gum in the carb over a long period. I do this with my snow blower every time I use it. Any snow can be the last snow of the season. This applies to every small engine, of course, not just chippers.

I have a 5hp craftsman chipper model 247.795850, I am not ab;le to keep it running; it will start with starter fluid but when fluid burns off chipper stops. I put a new plug and air filters as well as...

Your problem is the carburetor, it needs cleaned (at a minimum), but you may have to give it a rebuild. Make sure that you clean all the littlee holes and passages.

I was using the pressure washer with no problems and then ran out of gas. I added gas and now it won't start. Any suggestions? There isn't a choke on the unit either.

If it is a gas powered system it will have a choke. It could be some sort of automatic configuration without a lever for the end user to adjust however so we'll start with the basics. All engines need fuel, air, and spark to run. Since you know that you ran out of fuel try cycling the engine without starting to get some fuel into the system. You can do this a couple ways but the easiest would be to disconnect the spark plug pull the string start or turn the key a couple times. While your at it you may want to pull out the spark plug and see if the point is fouled. A little WD-40 and some fine grit sandpaper will clean it up pretty easily.

You can also check the air filter / exhaust. the usually have some foam type insert in or around. if it looks melted and not spongy you'll wnat to replace it.

I have had a similar problem with my lawnmower and although they are not the same machine, the principals behind the engine operation are.

Let me know if you are able to get it running.

24a-020d700 won't start, new gas & replaced air filter

First you need to check for spark at the plug if you have spark remove plug put a tea spoon full of gas in the plug hole reinstall the plug and try to start. If it starts for a sec the carb or fuel line is clogged and needs to be cleaned.

Can't start the engine

It may have gotten some oil in the cylinder if it was tilted too far.take the plug out and clean it with carburetor cleaner. Also spray a little carb cleaner in spark plug hole and turn engine over without spark plug in it to clean any excess oil out of cylinder.Dry the plug off and try it out. Also make sure the air filter did not get saturated with oil try starting it with the air filter off if it is saturated with oil.

Troy-Bilt Chipper Shredder won't start

It takes good gas, good spark, and good air for a gasoline engine to run well. The next thing I would do is put a new air filter in it.
