Have you got the correct drivers installed on your laptop? You should be able to download them from Acer. Is the laptop physically damaged? Is the entire keyboard or only certain parts not working?

Acer laptop keyboard won't type

If you install an operating system that did not come loaded with your Acer laptop, you might find that some drivers will not install and some devices on your computer will not work.

After installing a new operating system, you may find that the keyboard will not show up on your Device Manager and likely won't even write anything.

Most laptop manufacturers have drivers for a variety of operating systems and devices that can help resolve this situation.

Go to Acer Worldwide homepage.

Select your region and country from the radio buttons and then click "Go" on the bottom of the webpage.

Click on "Service & Support."

You can find this in the top navigation links.

Click "Driver Download."

Select your product family, product line, and product model from the list provided.

After you have selected from all these categories, you will see a box with a picture of your laptop and the operating systems with which it is compatible.

Download the keyboard (if there are any) and touchpad drivers (which are related to the keyboard most of the time) from the list that appears.

You may want to review the list and download any other drivers that have been released since you purchased your laptop.

Hope this helps

Hp laptop keyboard won't type "b n 1"or ''tab esc'' other keys ok..

Either your keyboard cable needs to be reseated or your keyboard is going bad and needs to be replaced. The keyboard cable is under the keyboard and it attaches to a slot on the motherboard. You'll have to partially disassemble the laptop to get to it. Hopefully you're not having this problem because you spilled a liquid on the keyboard.

Here's a fail safe alternative. Bring up google's website and in the search box type "" (without the quotes) and click the link to go to their site. When the site comes up look immediately to the left and you will see a gray area that says Find Software. Type in "free virtual keyboard" (without the quotes) and click the mirror to search. It will bring back a page and the Free Virtual Keyboard is listed first. Look to the right of it and click the Download Now button. Download and install it. Once it is install you can look in Start/Programs and right click on it and select Pin to Start Menu then right click again and select Desktop (Create Shortcut). It's a neat keyboard to have just in case your real keyboard goes bonkers. You simply click on the letter with your mouse pointer that you want. It has all the functionality of a physical keyboard. You can open a web page, place your mouse in the address line then bring up the virtual keyboard by clicking on it from your desktop or start menu and it will sit on top of whatever you were trying to do. You can move it to see the typing area as you click on a letter. It works the same way if you opened a word document. In your case anytime you need the space bar, just click on it.

Some of the letters in the keyboard of my daughter's sony vaio Y series laptop won't function. what should i do?

My guess is that either food or liquid has gotten into the keys causing them not to work. You can try the following:
1) Power the laptop off. Now, cradle the laptop with the screen open in one hand. Carefully flip it over. Now, with the palm of the other hand, lightly bang on the keyboard. This MAY cause any food thats lodged under a key or two to loosen and fall out. Don't get carried away with the banging. Just a couple of good taps all over the keyboard should work, if its going to. When completed, roll the laptop over and power it back up. See if your problem is fixed. If not solved,
2) Ok, you've got a more serious problem. This will likely require the replacement of the keyboard. If the laptop is older and you don't want the trouble or cost of replacing the laptop, you can usually just purchase a USB keyboard. Plug it into a USB port on the laptop and your problem should be solved.
3) If however the laptop is fairly new, and you want to replace the keyboard, you can either do it yourself (really NOT a huge project) or bring it in and have someone do it for you. If you opt to try to do it yourself, here is a link to a site with step by step instructions to remove the keyboard:
Its not exactly your model, but should be pretty close. Once you get it off, you can then Google 'laptop keyboards' and you'll find dozens of places that will ship you a replacement keyboard in a couple of days. Then just reverse the process to remove it and she should be all set.
No more eating or drinking over the laptop! :-)
Hope this helps!
