Losing colour after 10 mintes with Optoma DV10

Strange problem with my Optoma DV10. After around 10 minutes the picture is losing colour. Not black and white but almost no colour.
I checed the colour wheeand that is fine and still spinning when it lost the colour. It has something to do with heat because when I run the dvd with the lid off it plays fine. So when it overheats it does not switch off but loses colour. I cleaned all the filters etc but I am stuck now.
Even when it is without colour both the fans are stillopertaing. Any ideas what I should do?

I am running my lamp for about 5 min and then all the colors start blinking like a strobe light and my screen goes almost black and white. Colors are showing incorrectly and faint at best. After a few more minutes it completely shuts off the lamp and makes a kind of grinding/squeeking noise. I just replaced the bulb today thinking this was the problem but it didnt fix it at all. please help.

My Optima Projector is doing the same thing!!! please help!

Same here...optoma Hd72 just starts blinking like a strobe and loses it's color. I can put a fan on it to make it last but eventually it goes out again. This is our only TV AND the warranty company went out of business.

Almost same thing here.....after the unit heats up, the color goes almost black and white....and then....screen goes all black!.....(lamp goes out?)...I replaced the bulb (big bucks) because I got the end-of-life message, but no change...still happens...what a bummer!

SOURCE: Optoma DV10 color wheel

Okay, I recently had a loud noise coming from my projector and found online meterial stating that the colour wheel had been damaged. So with a bit of guts I managed to open the projector and found the colour wheel missing a segment.

I removed the colour wheel and the broken piece of the segement and tried to contact Optoma. Optoma turned round and said they cannot sell me the the colour wheel, which got me very upset. Some people claim online that Optoma will sell you the part on a back order at £50. (if you can be a little specific on how you managed to convince them to sell you the part, would be great).

The only option I had available was to send my project to them and they would repair for an estimated cost of £125+VAT. Guess what, you can buy the entire projector off ebay for 150quid!!!

Anyways after fiddling around quite a big online I got fedup and decided to glue the broken segment together and it SOLVED the loud vibration problem. I have colour and picture.

Becareful not to tighten the colour wheel screw too tight orelse it will break another piece of segement (Like I did).

Here are instructions on how to open up the projector.

I cannot guarantee this will work for you as it depends on how badly you have shattered the colour wheel segment, so do at your own risk. I had two piece of the segment broken and a third by tightening the colour wheel screw too tight.

This will work for awhile but the colour wheel does need replaceing one day. If anyone can tell me how you can get Optoma to sell you the colour wheel would be great.

Best of Luck

Hi i have an optoma dv10 but when you put in any dvd it just comes up no disc

Seems a very common problem with this model from what i can glean on the web.. Mine failed excatly as yours nine months ago and my local electronic repair man said optoma refuse to supply him with parts.I had to rig it up to a DVD player, but now the colour wheel has gone kaput. Optoma quoting £300 to fix but won't say exactly until you send it back to them. Have decided to buy Epson and cut my losses..

Well, in the USA I understand it's
Part no: 70.18r26g01
Cost: 129.00+shipping BUT CHECK THE PART NUMBER IS CORRECT
Model :Optoma DV-10
Contact no: (408) 383-3710 or 888.942.2929.

In the UK I don't know of a colour wheel supplier although I suspect 7-segment colour wheels from other manufacturers MIGHT fit, but it's a gamble and you'd need to check with them before spending any money in case it doesn't fit.

One company that has spares for Optoma is BlueGoose Systems but they don't have the colour wheel. Well worth speaking to them for other parts, 01624 671719 www.bluegoosesystems.co.uk for an online 'gander' at what they have in parts.

Dvd10 optoma projector makes a loud noise

Hi, I'm not sure if it's the same problem I had..
I had it on picture mute, for maybe 15 mins, which may not have been a good idea. While it was muted, it made a sparking sound, and then a very loud grinding noise. When turned off, the lound noise stops, and the fan continues as usual for about a minute. As soon as it's turned back on, the grinding noise is back. But the logo seemed to display ok.

I took it in for repairs, and they said they needed to replace the color wheel to fix the problem.

Optoma DV10 MovieTime Color Wheel replacement

Hi guys

Your best bet on getting your hands on a Service Manual would be to contact Optoma themself.

As for changing the colour wheel , it is pretty straight forward if you were able to open up the unit and get to it.

The colourwheel is mounted with three tiny scrws to a bracket in which it sits. And the bracket in it's turn is fastenend to the body of the Projector with two tiny screws.

First unscrew the bracket from the casing of the Projector and then take off the three screws that holds the Colour wheel to the bracket. Replace and do the whole proses again - but obviously just the other way round.

This is really easy to do yourself.

Give me a shout if you need any further assistance.

Thanks for using Fixya and good luck.
