I have a dell inspiron e1505 and i can't play dvd's. It will recognize my cd's but it keeps asking me to insert a dvd and there is one already in. What do I need to do to see what is wrong and how to fix the problem?

I use media center and it's a phillips dvd player. Not sure the model number. Where would I find that?

I have the same issue but I also get a grinding noise. Some DVD's work fine but others dont. It also makes a noise like it will work normal and then stops and then revs up again and again and again.

Well first you could try cleaning the laser lense.

If you provide the Operating System and the model number, I would be happy to provide you with drivers to see if that helps.

If neither of these work it may be time to replace the drive.

By any chance did you change the operating system?

The Model Number can often be found on the laptop itself or you if you have the box, it may say what model the laptop is.

Go to www.support.dell.com and put in your Dell tag number and then look up all updates and drivers. Most likely it just needs updates firmware.

Gives this try and get back to me.

When I turn on my Laptop the Dell Inspirer E1505 it says A Disk Read error occured Press Ctrl + Alt + Dell to restart then i restarted the computer i pressed F2 and the BIOS setting came up i went to...

It's asking you for a password to access the BIOS. You or someone entered a password to access the BOIS (setup screen). The original problem you're having is "Disk Read Error". If you have the CD's that came with your laptop, look for a Resource CD or any that has "Utilities and Diagnostics" under "Contents". This is a CD that you can boot from. Insert the CD and select <F12> on power on. Select boot from CD/DVD disk. If the laptop boots then your laptop is working but your hard disk drive or OS (Operating system software) is the problem.

CD/DVD drive doesn't work

try removing the drive from the laptop, then go into the device menu and delete the drive. Restart. Shutdown again and insert the drive, restart - it should show a "new device" recognized. If it doesn't, the drive may just have failed. I've had it happen to a dell drive - it just doesn't see the drive at all.

Cd rom problem

Try to play different cds from your dvd rom drive.
If all of them does play then i suspected the cd that you had inserted to play is faulty.

If all of the cds doesn't work, re-install your dvd rom driver. If it doesn't still read any cds then your dvd rom drive is faulty.

Note: If machine is under warranty no need to pay for the repairs.

Dvds won't play properly and sound isn't right

Sounds like you may have an issue with it reading discs. It can probably play CDs fine because it's fast enough to buffer ahead of it since an audio CD isn't very much data compared to a DVD. Try cleaning the laser lens with a dry paper towel first (not moist or a dusty kleenex). If that doesn't seem to clean it, or you have visible smears or smudges on it, you may want to try a very very moist (barely the next level above dry) paper towel, then try it immediately.

If that doesn't solve the problem, try different DVD software (VLC Media Player, perhaps) or try a different DVD if you haven't already.

Music cd's are not recognized by my computers D: drive

Are you sure that you have a cd drive? It could be that it is only a dvd drive. It could also be that the cd has a scratch or is unreadable.

My dell inspron e1505 dvd/cd drive does not work would like to replace it. it says model TS-L632D/Dekh

Here is an auction on ebay for the item you're looking for (it says that the drive works in the e1505, you may want to verify that with the seller).

This is a youtube video detailing how to swap out the drive.

Good luck!

hey,
i have inspiron 6400 myself, with vista home edition installed.

your e1505 is the new version of my dell

spec and review here on e1505 http://blog.miguelovitch.dk/2007/12/18/dell-inspiron-e1505-replace-6400/

I can watch movies both online and 'offline'. DVDs, mpeg, avi, and wmv format and more.

I think you have some problems with your media player or codec.

Are you using xp or vista?
