Acer T690 dvd not recognized

I have recently purchased a t690 in which the dvd drive has vanished from the list of drives. The list now skips the E: drive and lists the card drives. I have tried deleting the driver from the hardware manager and rebooting but it always comes back with the yellow "!" mark

Is this an ide drive? have you look for the jumper, single drive on one ide have no problem, but for two drives, one must be slave and the other a master. configuring your ide connections may fixed the problem.

I have recently purchased a 500GB storage device. i plugged it into my system and nothing happened. what could be the cause of the problem, and how should i correct this

Check the USB cable try another one.
Or it may have already installed itself. Check this by clicking on My Computer and check to see what drives are listed, you should see C/ drive and D/ drive (depending if you have a DVD ROM) if the other drive has been installed you should see E/ or F/ drive.
Try copying some files to it, like pictures or something.

The drive is not being seen in windows 7

Is This recently installed drive? It could be missing drivers. click on start then right-click computer, and click properties, then on device manager a new window should pop up with a list of devices under cd/dvd rom drives check to see if your device is listed.

Dvd driver gone

do one thing ...
click on start > right click on my computer > properties > hardware > device manager > and go under cd/dvd and see if the drive is listed there and if it is there right click on it and uninstall it and than go under the option that says IDE ATA/ ATAPI and uninstall the secondary channel and than restart the system hopefully you will get the drive back if that doesnt work out than open the tower and disconnect and reconnect the data and the power cable attached to the non working drive and if that doesnt work the change the power connector which should be an extra one in the cabinet and than also change the data cable and if that too doesnt work than ur drive gone bad
change it

The DVD drive status: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Go into DEVICE MANAGER and check both the hard drive and DVD. Sounds like you have a hardware conflict, that is both are competing for the same territory (IRQ). You should be able to change this setting manually in there.

NI8 SATA DVD Drive compatability

You must have added the SATA drive after setting up the IDE. If both drives are using the same os this will not function. Ony one drive can have the os on it. All SATA's are seen as a master.
To correct this problem, disconnect the IDE drive. Hook up the SATA drive. Again if the SATA has the os on it everything will run. Change the jumper on the IDE and set it as a slave. Hook the IDE up. Enter the bios & do not list the IDE in the boot to section. Problem solved. While in windows, format the IDE drive.
You do not want windows thinking you want a dual boot system.
So you understand, in the bios -boot settings this is how things should be listed.
Boot device 1 Sony Optiarc DVD drive
Boot device 2 WD raptor SATA, In-stall your os to this drive

CD / DVD player not listed as device on Windows Explorer

Try physically removing the player and fire up the laptop. Power down the laptop, replace the player and power back up. If that doesn't help, see if BIOS recognizes it.
If that doesn't work, get back to me.
