Garage door openers old and new

I have a very old sears (craftsman) garage door opener. I am replacing it with a new craftsman garage door opener. My question is. Can I just use the old track and chain and put it on the new motor? Of course I would put in all new wiring etc.....

Most openers have a safety cut out to prevent the door hitting your car when closing ,check the door guides to see if the door jams or is twisted.Depending on the model check the drive chain for sticking links or binding.Failing all disconnect from door and run unit without door. This will narrow problem to door or closer.

No, the problem is the photoelectric eyes. Check that they are properly aligned.

I am locked out of my garage

Pull the emergency release red handle down and back (toward the opener). The door can then be raised and lowered manually as often as necessary.

Door won't close light blinks

Your garage door has photoeye sensors that are blocked or misaligned. Look for a two devices one on each side of the door opening near the bottom. They usually have an indicator light on one of them that is on when they are unblocked.

Craftsman Garage Door Opener

unplug the power of your door opener for a few minutes and plug it back in. Try the remote control that you have and see if it opens the door. If it doesn't open the door, reprogram [learn] the remote control you have and that is it. The other remote will be useless ... and you just proved it to yourself!
