When a computer freezes there are many possible causes.

One may be that you've downloaded a viruses,

another may be that you have so much adaware running in the background that your computer simply can't handle it.

A third reason may be that you have too many programs loaded on your computer and the system is experiencing excessive pageing.

and other things like a clogged vent. You can vaccum your vents or get some compressed air.

Try running an anti virus and adware scan if the system can handle this. Ad-Aware 2008 and AVG Free are free for personal use.

If that doesn't fix your problem and your running either XP or Vista, try using system restore and restore your computer to an earlier time.

Most companies offer restore disks for your laptop, talk to a representative of the manufacturer and find out if they offer one of these disks for your model.

Last ditch effor, try formatting your hard drive and installe a new copy of your operating system. Please note that formatting is best done through the installer.

Reboot by pressing down and holding the power button for several seconds or until PC shuts down. Reboot to your desktop. Theres several possiblities why it froze and since you forgot to mention your system, what version Windows youre using, how big your hard drive ( and leftover space) or how much RAM you have you can either perform system restore, uninstall whatever you installed to make it freeze, run your anti-virus program, run your spyware program, do a disk clean-up and or perform defrag.

Hold down the power button until it shuts off. Give it a few seconds. That should square it away.

My mouse pointer wont work. it froze and i dont know what to do . i've tried fn+ f7 but it still will not work .please help

Have you turned off your computer and turned it back on? If not, then try that first.
(This might not work for you) Also, if this is a laptop, try taping Fn+F7 a few times, the mouse settings might be toggling between different configurations, you need to find the configuration that works for you.

If that does not fix it and this problem is on a laptop, you will need to go to the laptop manufacturers website and download a new "touch pad driver".

Well firstly, you know apart from viruses,a fair few sites hold malicious code even in video or image form so thats your freezing problem ,most probably, your best bet would be to have it looked at if you cannot manage it further.Manufacturer will have diagnostic equipment /cables/analyzers etc.
At a guess it sounds like a motherboard component.chip failure perhaps which is not necessarily non-user servicable--maybe try a better search for manufacturers site pdf for for you model.
Linux distros are free and auto install ,if you have not luck with windows bang up a linix distro and see what their diagnostics tell you on boot up,things may become clearer-----good luck

HP pavilion will not shut down

pull the power cord out and the battery (or just let it run out). Then, try turning it back on again. If it does the same thing again then yes it may be old blue death and your harddrive may be worse than dead. I don't believe that the power button doesn't work. Hold it in for 10-15 seconds or so, any computer is DOS programmed to respond to the power commands above all, even above the dreaded blue screens. Let me know if I'm an ******* and I don't know what I'm talking about or if you need more help.
