Question about Dryers
It sounds like the motor is humming like it cant turn the drum & not like the belt is off, the lights in my service porch, where the dryer is, get much brighter for about 1.5 seconds then the humming stops after a min passes the timed cycle minutes remaining goes from 40 to 39 & it tries to start the drum again. it does this over & over. when i first noticed the dryer doing this it read 32min remaining on the display, i dont think the drum had spun at all on this load. somebody help this was a rather expensive purchase just 4 years ago, & now im without work & can not afford to even have it repaired by a tech let alone buy a new one. thanks

Your glides are brobably broken and missing. This will make the drum hard to turn and bind the motor. Get the front off the dryer:
Start by popping the top with a putty knife.
Get the screws out that hold the front on and take a look:

Yes, that would be a motor, but i would fix it, kenmore is a very good brand, easy to replace and what not, my upmost suggestion is to change the motor, and if you want it to really be a superb dryer i would buy the maint. kit, includes rollers, idler and belt. other than that these dryers are great the timers hold up and door switch's are pretty strong. while you do this i would make sure it is all clean.. here is a link to my site get the number and give me a call if you would like....www.whirlpoolpartssurplus.com

I am assuming that the hum indicates the motor is running but the drum is not turning. Possibly a broken drum belt however the check filter warning is indicating low air flow so the blower wheel could be broken at the connection to the motor shaft.
