Frigidaire stove CFES388 REB1 UP ARROW button not working

The up arrow button on my Frgidaire model CFES388 REB1 slide-in stove has not worked for some time. All other buttons appear OK.

I removed the button cover (which was in poor shape anyway) and find that I can use a piece of wood doweling to activate the up arrow. So, it seems that the button cover is the problem (and from the looks of it, I am sure it is).

Is there somewhere that I can get a replacement cover for this?

Richard.

A follow-on for this problem. It seems that I can no longer use a piece of wood dowling to activate the 'up' botton so the solution is likely more complex than I thought. Any ideas on this?

I have already approach appliance repair people and they tell me that the part is no longer available.

The problem is not only the rubberized button but also seems to be associated with the control mechanism itself behind the front panel. I am quite prepared to remove the front panel (if I can figure out how to do that) and look further.

I tried each of the 3 suggestions made but none of them found the model# (CFES388REB1) of my stove.

Do you have any other suggestions?

The URL www.applianceclinic.com links to the RepairClinic that was suggested earlier - they cannot identify the model# of my stove.

    Any more ideas...

This is the closest we have come to my range - the Model# CFES388WGC7 looks somewhat like mine. I will try to access the control unit behind the front panel to check the part#. The part# that you pointed me to was out of stock.

Well you guys, I have fixed my stove!!! And MrMark52, I thank you for your advice re-dissassembly. Here's what I did and how I fixed it (so far without buying any replacement part)!

I accessed the site for the CFES388RFB5 (not the same as my model but fairly close) and looked at the exploded parts diagram. With the instructions on removing the 'Panel-Control' (as the parts list describes it) I did this and found the display unit and an attached circuit board on which are mounted the micro-switches. The rubber push-button caps that activate the micro-switches are attached to the 'Panel-Control' and on removing the circuit board and display unit the micro-switches are evident.
Now, the switch that operates the 'up-arrow' on the 'Panel-Control' was inoperable - my view is that it is not robust enough for the frequent operation of the 'up-arrow' function. So I looked at the circuit board on which were mounted the micro-switches and noticed that there was a spare switch for a function not active on my stove model (there was no push-button on the 'Panel-Control' to match it. So I unsoldered the spare switch and replaced the broken one with it. I also swapped the somewhat 'beat-up' rubber push button that operated the 'up-arrow' with the one for 'Cook Time' which we very rarely us. I re-assembled the whole thing (I was very careful to label connectors that I needed to disconnect and noted the order in which I removed the screws).

The result was a stove with an up-arrow that now works!!! As do the other functions. We can now increase the oven temparature, the timer and other things.

One casualty of the process was the smoked glass cover for the display unit. When I removed the unit, the glass just fell out and, of course, broke into tiny pieces$%^&!@# I will buy a piece of smoked glass rated for high temperatures, cut it to size and cement it in.

And that concludes my own FixYa experience.

Thanks for you help. I will sign off the problem.

BTW, the part number for the printed circuit board on which are mounted the micro-switches is 956-0065 in case anybody else is interested.

    Cheers guys,
    RjB.

I am not seeing your actual model anywhere on the internet. Could you find it on here?

or just look around there for the right one.
Thanks

I would go ahead and call frigidaire and confirm with them your model number and they would also probably send you a replacement part for free considering how small it would be or where to go get one.

I have gone to the Frigidaire website and found the parts list for CFES388RFB5, which is probably identical to the unit in you post. (For the most part, once you get a majority of the model number identified, trailing letters and numbers such as the REB1 designate small insignificant differences that don't impact the parts your looking for.)

It's hard to determine from your description if your talking about the rotating knob temperature control, or if your talking about the toggle switch at either end of the front control panel.

As for disassembly, I would open the door and look for screws along the bottom front of the control panel head. I suspect that removal of screws there will allow the head to be rotated upward where it will come loose from the backside where it meets the cooktop.

BE SURE TO DISCONNECT ALL POWER BEFORE SERVICING OR DISASSEMBLY!

As for availability of parts, I am certain they can be found on the web. RepairClinic and SearsPartsDirect are two good reliable resources for parts like this.

My Frigidaire stove suddenly makes a noise of ***~~~~ sounds.

Good Afternoon Isaac, thank you for your submission!
I see that your Frigidaire stove is not working but the broil light is on. I would suggest disconnecting power from it for at least ten minutes this is how to perform a factory reset. The factory reset may help clear out any miscommunication within the range and allow it to continue to operate properly. If the reset does not help resolve your issue I would suggest having a professional technician out to perform a proper diagnosis. I hope the information I have provided is helpful to you. -Matt

Replaced element on frigidaire oven and oven still not working

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand you've recently replaced the elements on your Frigidaire oven and that it is still not working. May I have your model number please? The serial tag, which lists your model number, is normally located in the storage drawer, on the right side if you have a range. If you own a wall-oven please check the front of the oven, on the left side, as you open the door. Also, think about what may have happened prior to this occurrence. For instance, did you notice any strange functions or any other error codes prior to this issue? With this information I can better determine what may be causing the issue at hand. Thank you! - Z

Frididaire electric stove the oven has stopped working

Good Afternoon Friend, thank you for allowing me to assist you!

I understand you are experiencing an issue with the oven of your Frigidaire range. May I have your model number please? You can normally locate the serial tag (which provides your model number) in the storage drawer, on the right side. Also, think about what may have happened prior to this occurrence. For instance, did you notice any strange functions or any other error codes prior to this issue? Do the burners/elements work? With this information I can assist you better in pinpointing the problem.

Meanwhile, let's try resetting your range by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker to the off position. It is important to wait approximately ten minutes and then turn your range on. If resetting the power does not correct the issue, could you please advise me if the issue continues or provides an error code. Thank you! -Z

Frigidaire stove oven want come on model # FGF368GSJ

Hello Larry D Harris - Does any part of the range work? I would recommend verifying that a fuse is not blown or a circuit breaker tripped. Test the power outlet with a lamp, hair dryer, etc. Another questions, does "Loc" appear in the display if any button is pushed? The Oven Lockout feature automatically locks the oven door, prevents the warmer drawer and most oven controls from being turned ON. If so, press and hold CLEAR/OFF for 3 seconds. A beep will sound. LOC will clear. The "DOOR LOCKED" will continue to flash until the oven door has completely unlocked. Do the maintop burners work? Granting that it does, you can try confirming that the shut-off valve on the gas pressure regulator is in the "ON" position (usually located on the back left-hand side of the range). This valve shuts off gas to the oven. If after the basic troubleshooting, you continue to experience the issue I would suggest contacting a certified technician to assist in the full diagnosis and repair of your range.
