My HP 5510 repeats "clear paper jam" but there is no paper jam. I have disassembled the feeder on top reassembled and there are no issues to be found. When copying or faxing the feed rollers turn on, but do not reverse to engage the paper. A seeming sensor or software issue? This printer will not work with either cartridge missing or out of ink. Remove the paper and look very closely at the paper tray to locate the paper sensor switch. Make sure that when you insert the paper it trips the switch. Check to see if a small piece of paper has jammed in the switch area and is not allowing the sensor to move. Also look at the entire paper route and make sure that there is nothing jammed in the path. Let me know if you need more help.
Lift the scanner lid, then lift the black part of the fax - pull up hard for it to lift. Unjam the paper either still on top or gently lift the inner section and retrieve your jammed paper. Then put everything back together and you're right to go again.
I have an HP 5510 All in one, and mine did the same thing. There was a plastic fingerlike thing that had hung up just to the right of the printhead, preventing it from moving. I removed the cartridge and managed to get the part unstuck with a screwdriver.
