I have the same problem. My system is layed out as follows. Actiontech DSL router (wireless disabled) network port connected to D-Link switch/wireless-N router. When internet connection is lost the house network continues to function between devices. I need cycle the power on the Actiontech for it to re-establish internet connection. The modem is located in a well ventilated closet away from electrical noise and metal duct work. Note: The internet light goes off when connection is lost.

this router seems to loose the ability to contact the DNS at times. can ping outside locations (www.google.com) using the numeric address. if attempted by name get message "unknown host". reset of the modem cures problem until next time. may be hours, days, weeks or months. have not tried using direct DNS address but may try that next time. modem status shows same DNS #1, and #2 when rebooted. just looses the ability to use it.

    bklstuner22,

In order to assist, I will have to ask for a few more details
    A) Are you connected via USB, Ethernet or via Wireless?
    B) When you loose connectivity, is it from the ISP to the router, or is it between the router and your self? (If you are unsure, the next time you loose your connection, check to see if your "Internet" and "DSL" lights are on)
    C) Does the problem correct itself, or do you have to power cycle the router (IE: Turn it off and turn it back on)

I will do my best to assist,
    Jem

Intermittent Connectivity:
NOTE: Before following the steps in this article, check if your wireless computers have stable connection when connected to other wireless networks (hotspots).
Frequent wireless disconnection can be caused by different factors such as:

  1. Wireless interference within the network.
  2. Wireless settings of the router are still set to default.
  3. Firmware is corrupted.
Reducing Wireless Interference
If you are experiencing frequent disconnection from the wireless network, it helps if you check the following factors, all of which can greatly affect your wireless signals:
your cordless telephone system (or even your neighbors’), or other nearby equipment. Try to change your router’s channel to 1 or 11 (the default channel is 6) and restart the wireless computers.
Physical obstructions: Your router or wireless computers may be losing connectivity because of physical obstacles such as walls and floors. Try to move the equipment to different locations to find a better link.

  • Placement of the router: place your router as high off the ground as possible. When placing the router in a high location, leave a distance of two feet between the router antenna tips, ceiling, and wall. If your signal passes through multiple floors, place the router on the upper-most floor, and high up in the room.
  • Surroundings: Keep the router away from large metal objects, bodies of water (fish tanks, bathrooms), and any electrical equipment including television sets, microwaves, radios, etc.
Change your SSID and encrypt with WEP or WPA security.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

All you need to correct is entering in the WEP key for the wireless network- you will connect, but will be unable to browse wirelessly otherwise. The WEP key is found on the bottom of the actiontec- unless you changed it to something else- at which point you would need to log into the modem to find out your WEP key.(192.168.1.1 on a working computer in internet explorer/safari/firefox, un/pw admin, password or admin, admin; wireless settings)

Actiontec GT704WG doesnt connect to internet

HI! all your computer is connected except for one, you are connected to to the local network but cant get an internet connection, I dont see any problem with your wireless connection bcoz you are connected to the lan, check the security settings of your browser on your windows vista, go to internet option and security, lower it down to medium security, so that you can access the internet or try using other browser like firefox or google chrome.. check your firewall settings as well on your windows vista..

Wireless router on but not working

Who is your ISP? I belive what you have is a modem router. If the interney light is not lit then it only mean that the actiontec is bridged and you need to use a dialer on your pc to connect to your ISP. If the internet light is lit, no need for a dialer just connect it straight to your pc and check your internet.

Actiontec gt704wg hates vista

Vista is almost as bad as Verizon services. I have had a ton of problems. I had a Westell router that kept going out and then I put my Actiontec on. It was a lot faster but still drops out all the time. When I log in to the router it says I have both dsl and internet connection. and then my pc shows I have the locals only. Where I live has old wiring and Verizon won't fix there end of it.

Actiontec GT704-WG wireless connection not working

Hi,
you say it suddenly stopped working, if you can connect to the router via ethernet cable then try to access the router's web utility page and make sure your router is in mixed or G-only. If you can't still connect to the router through wireless then try restarting the Wireless Zero Configuration from windows. This is how it's made: Go to control panel and double-click "administrative tools", then double-click "services". You will see a list, scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration and click "stop", you'll see a progress bar. After that click "start", you'll see another progress bar. Now try connecting to your router via wireless connection. If you still can't connect then repair the connection by right-clicking the wireless icon at the bottom right corner. Keep repairing until you connect.
Hope this works!

If Actiontec doesn't have your answer, then you'll want to get a separate hub or router to connect both computers.
