Make sure that the firmware of your printer is up to date. Just go to to download the firmware update.

Also, try to perform a maintenance on the cartridges. To do that, on the control panel of your printer, press on Setup > Maintenance > Deep Clean Printhead.

If the steps provided above doesn't help, download the updated driver for your printer online: Just choose the operating system of your computer.

What you need to do is take your photos of your artwork using your camera's macro mode. The macro mode button looks like a flower. Macro mode allows for precise focusing on close up subjects.

Hi when i print lines appear in my printout - i have ran the maintenance checks and nozzle check utility seems fine although the black looks a bit fuzzy - do you know how to resolve this problem please?...

If you haven't done so, run the alignment setup again. If that doesn't work, put in new cartridges and see if there are still lines in your printout. This will check if it's a printer issue or cartridge issue. Here's a PDF from epson on how to run the alignment setup. See page 11.

All my printouts on my Phaser 8400 is fuzzy and

What normally causes that is the Drum motor encoder picks up the lubrucant from the drum and makes the drum spin to fast and or just out of sync.
It is located on the right side of the machine. I reference that looking from the front. To remove the right cover you remove one torx screw from the top back and one inside the paper path door in front, near the top. Then when those 2 are removed you lift up and out on the cover.
The encoder is on the end of the drum shaft. You can remove it and clean it by pouring alcohol over it, wiping it gently then allow it time to dry.
That should take care of it. If not then the encoder will need replaced.
If you go to and click on support and drivers, enter 8400 in the search box, and it may be on the support page or the documentation page, but there is a parts list on the site that you can look at as a reference or also to get a part number to order a new one if needed. Using the parts list is the best way to be certain you are getting to the correct part and not guessing.
But I am about 90 percent certain that the encoder is the issue.

No hint of toner shortage but printouts lack color

Can be short of toner before the pagecount is at max for the capacity of cartridge.

If you look at the roller at the edge of the toner cartridge, it should have an even coating of fairly dense toner.

Remove each toner in turn, shake, and reinstall. This will often give you a few more pages.

Rated capacity is a guide based on a 5% page coverage.

Some remanufacturers are a little 'economical' with the toner they put in their catridges.
