Hello from here you can download a manual and drivers:

http://ee.gigabyte.com/products/page/mb/ga-8ipe1000_pro-g/download/

There are 2 issues you have to check
The cpu thermal grease could have been dryed out.
And the graphic card maybe malfunctioning.
Try to upgrade the graphic driver or change the graphic card
Do you have any driver problems in the device manager ??
If yes upgrade the driver from the download site.
I don`t think its virus so early in the boot process.

You can renew the graphic driver you just have to know what brand it is.

If you have an AMD:

Or NVIDIA:

Good luck

You didn't say Windows what? makes a big difference you gotta know. Have you tried a safe mode start up by tapping F8 a few times key right after Bios screen blanks & before Win. screen appears. Once in the boot menu choose safe mode. Let it boot then try decreasing the video settings & restart. if that"s not the fix restart in SM & uninstall video driver. It should reinstall a working driver on next start up.

The laptop loads up, lets me sign in, then goes blank, no icons

Try booting to the safe mode (F8 at boot) and see if you can log in via the safe mode. If you can't, try booting to your Windows CD, go to recovery console and run CHKDSK /R
If you still can't log in, try running diags see if the hard drive lists a failure.
if no hardware failure found, there and none of those solutions work, then re-installing windows will likely be the final resolution

You may want to try boot into SAFE MODE.
Do this by pressing F8 repeatedly until you are offered boot options by windows.

select SAFE MODE and continue on. Note this may take longer to boot and is normal.
when it goes into windows it will ask you if you want to continue so click yes.

If you have recently installed any programs esp. toolbars then you should use the ad/remove programs to delete them.

Also if you have antivirus AND antispyware now would be an ideal moment to let them go to work.

Now try a reboot.

When i turn on my compaq laptop, why does it show a blank screen and shut on and of on its own?

its overheating or you have damaged windows. if you see the windows screen, try pressing F8 repeatedly as soon as you power it on and you will see a menu where you can select safe mode. try it and see if it starts, if it wont, or keeps restarting try to boot with a op sys cd just to see if it stays on, if not its the heat. if it does its your windows files and you must reinstall

Acer 7720 will not boot

Do you want to try and see if a 'Linux LiveCD' boots? This is the way I test if the computer works. You burn this CD to a disk, and then boot off of it when you're computer starts. I will not modify anything on your computer as long as you go to 'Try Ubuntu with out installing'

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Don't worry, I'm not trying to get you to install anything, just see if it boots into the 'live environment' (means you are running it off of the cd) If this works, that means that it is only your windows installation is messed up, and a reinstallation of windows should work fine with a Windows install CD NOT the recovery cd.

Boot into the recovery console and run; chkdsk /r Note the space between dsk and /r. If you are unsure of how to get into the recovery console, and have access to a Windows CD; 1. Boot the computer with the Windows CD 2. Select the option to enter the recovery console 3. At the prompt, type CHKDSK /R and press enter (this may take a while). If you do not have access to a Windows CD, but DO have access to a working system with a CD-R or CD/RW, download the XP Recovery Console CD ISO* and burn it to CD using DeepBurner (or whichever application you have that supports such (DeepBurner, Nero, MagicISO etc)). http://archives.mysteryfcm.co.uk/?f=System/Diagnostics/XP_Recovery_Console_CD_ISO * This CD ISO will load pretty much the same as the XP installation program but will NOT provide installation options, ONLY the recovery console. This can be used regardless of whether you are using 2000, XP, 2003 or Vista. Once you have the ISO burnt, boot the computer using the CD and go to the recovery console. Once at the recovery console, type the following and press enter; CHKDSK /R

Laptop boots up intermittently or screen freezes

basing on the information you have given here are the possible solutions:
remove any external device connected to your system (printer, external hard drive and others) if removing this does not work and still gets a blank screen with blinking cursor try to go to safe mode with networking. if successful try to download the driver for your video adapter.

when you try to start the computer , do get anything on the screen like a logo? when does the blank screen occurs, is it during the turning ON of the computer or during the windows xp logo appears on the screen?

a blank screen could be caused by the following: defective video adapter, corrupted video driver, defective memory, unknown device causing the issue like the hard drive, optical drive or other peripheral installed inside the computer.

try also using an external monitor
