Replaced two IC's and still the same problem????

Well? I replaced the ic's and a repairman said was out..... And I still have the same problem with my TV??? The screen is bowed in from the top and I see multicolors... Before and after fixing the ic's, when I go to the convergence adjustment screens? It won't let me adjust the red and blue crosses into the white; also the white cross looks green??? What else can it be, that's wrong with the convergence??? Help me, please??? Thank you, Cliff

Re: Replaced two IC's and still the same problem????

U say the set is bowed in from top, could this be a foldover? If so then the ic problem may not help. Check to see if any fluid leakage has dropped on your deflection board. If so then you probably will need to clean and replace some capacitors. This is kind of common with the philips projo's. Look around crt for fluid leakage and on board.

This set uses two of the STK-392-570 IC chips for this (convergence problem)

Projection TV, Sound but no Picture

If this Tv is a model year 1996 or 1998, It is quite possible your vertical IC needs resoldered. It is located on the small signal board. This board [quite large anyway] is the board on the left. I don't know the location off hand. The IC has seven pins and located on a heatsink, It is a TDA series. Resolder any and all grounds you see. May as well get the Large Signal board [On the right] resoldered. The other problem would be the P I P board, a small board standing up, that can be removed and replaced. But try the earlier first. This is tedious, but will produce results.

Could be shorted convergence chips. There are two of them in the TV. If they short they will shut the TV down. One quick test is to desolder both of them...then power the TV on..if it fires up the chips were shorted and would need to be replaced. You can get a complete kit from

Detailed problem per your response

The problem is that the ICs may have been blown because the resistors were bad. Just as a double check before you replace anything else. Please confirm that the STKs are STK392-110. Also, replaceing them with STK392-150 is a valid upgrade, I'm not sure about the 180s, but I'll check. Both the STKs and the resistors need to be changed at the same time.

The hour glass view you reported: Was the bowing on the top and bottom or on the sides?

Tv has a line going thru the centre of the screen when i turn it on its like the whole picture has gone into a thin line

This is a problem with the vertical circuit and can be either bad connections at the vertical IC or a defective IC. This is a common problem and is easily repaired. The vertical IC is a small flat IC attached to a heatsink with about 11 pins or so. It might be marked LA7837 or something similar. If you can solder, try resoldering the pins on that IC first. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the IC. Expect the IC to cost about $15-$25 depending upon the exact one. It is possible that some of the capacitors in the same circuit are defective as well. Once the IC is replaced/resoldered, report back here with the results and we can go further if necesary.

Which IC should I replace if the RED is off?

You would need the service manual to dtermine which IC controls the red. One IC controls red and the other controls blue. If the red was replaced before. It probaly went out as some suppliers dont use origional sanyo ICs. Which unfortunately dont last as long as the sanyo parts do.
