Question about Oreck XL21 Bagged Upright Vacuum
The metal rod is about 2" and at one of the ends, it's a little bit bigger with small raised bars like a male fitting to go into a reverse slot. I was vacuuming and heard a sound like a screw got sucked in so I opened the bottom of the vacuum to locate it. I picked the vacuum up and the scent cartridge and this bar fell out. Now I don't know where this bar came from

Remove the five screws from the baseplate and replace your belt by removing your brushroll, putting the belt over the motor pulley, and then over the pulley on the brushroll, then replacing the brushroll in its original position and screwing the baseplate on. Note that you should make sure that the bearing ends of your brushroll spin freely prior to doing this to avoid the belt breaking again.

Check that the beater bar is completely clear of thread, this will bring the brush roll back to normal. Also check the sides of the brush roll doesn't have anything such as thread or thick string at the sides.

I am having the same trouble. I bought the vacuum new in October 2007 when my wife and I purchased a newly constructed home. Since it is only two of us, she only has to vacuum once a month. I have taken it in three different times and get the same story. It needed a new belt. Mine has white smoke coming out of it and smells like burning rubber. I contacted Oreck and got no results. They refused to let me discuss this with Dave Oreck, stating that he nevers talks with customers! Gary Neeble
