If the hard drive or laptop was not password protected then you can try putting the hard drive in an external en-closer and try to access it that way, depending where the errors are on the hard drive there is a good possibility that it will still be unreadable and all will be lost. try a hard drive sector repairing program like hdd regenerator to fix the errors enough to access the drive and get back whats lost do not rely on the drive again after this tho as with my experience the fix does not last and it will fail again. hope this helps if so click the THIS HELP ME button. any other info needed just reply and ill get back

SOURCE: screen stuck at error: no such partition, grub

Sounds like you have serious hard drive errors and may need to initialize your drive to allow the BIOS to see it. When you have done that reinstall Ubuntu and all of your drivers from the Acer web site.

Can I reset it back to factory setting with out a CD or DVD

If the restore partition is still on the hard disk then press Alt and F10 just before it boots. Otherwise try T8 just before it boots. If this fails try Creating a System Rescue USB drive (Note: An alternative to the spyware-laden Daemon-tools for mounting the ISO file as a virtual CD-ROM is Virtual CloneDrive). If you have trouble with the System Rescue CD, you can try some other distros.
Reboot the netbook and go into the Acer BIOS settings. Change the boot settings to check USB first. Plug in your System Rescue stick, and restart the netbook.
Run "wizard", and launch gtparted (icon towards the lower-left of the screen).
Delete partition 2, create a new one, then reformat it as NTFS
Mark partition 1 as bootable (right-click, edit flags). Remove USB drive.
Reboot into the Acer System Restore software. Choose to restore the system.
Plug the System Rescue USB drive back into the Acer netbook.
Reboot into the System Rescue CD/USB, go back into gparted, and flag the restored partition 2 as bootable.
Remove USB flash drive and reboot.
Hope that helps.

Error : no such partition. grub rescue laptop pavilion g4

That is a bad message. Use a partitioning software to repartition your drive. Make sure your OS is in the active partition. Then format it.

Sounds like a job for a repair shop that can attach an external drive to it and reload the operating system.

Acer aspire 6930 - have tried all the suggested methods but all I get is 'error: no such partition. Grub rescue ' help!

Dear Friend,
The master boot record MBR might be wiped out causing the Operating System to be banished along with the recovery side (on major brands). My suggestion is to either reinstall a fresh copy or try fixing it by using windows recovery console.

Good Luck!

What is grub error 17? how to fix it?

Its GRand Unified Bootloader used in Linux OS.
Normally you get this error when GRUB is not able recognise the partition from which you are trying to boot the system. Make sure the boot partition on your system is recognisable by GRUB (such as EXT3).

You can try to restore the GRUB using the LIVE CD
  1. Boot From Live CD
  2. Open Terminal Window
  3. type >sudo grub
  4. then type : find /boot/grub/stage1
  5. you'll get something like: (hd0, 1)
  6. then type : >root (hd0, 1)
  7. type: > setup (hd0)
  8. >quit
  9. >exit
Remove the Live CD and reboot the system.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you for choosing Fixya
