Question about Mitsubishi Televison & Video

1 Answer

WD-60638 DLP TV does not have any red

Our TV has had color issues for the last week or so. It's not even a year old yet! It has NO red at all. If you put the color all the way to the deepest orange (and still no red), it turns goal posts on a field a neon color and beaks on uniforms this awful neon green looking looking. We have tried resetting to the factory settings. When we do this everything turns green. The picture color is absolutely awful and we're coming up on the holidays where everyone is going to be here trying to watch football games, movies, games, etc.

If the green front panel LED blinks continuously and the TV never comes on, its an issue with the "DM" board. When these TVs are first plugged in, the green LED should blink for 30 sec. to a minute or so. This is the TV booting up, reading its software. Mitsubishi has been having problems with this circuit for several years. In may cases the only permanent solution is to have the chassis rebuilt by Mitsubishi at considerable cost and inconvience. The chassis may have to be sent back to Mits for this rebuild. Call Mits and ask for help.

On a Mitsubishi DLP wd-60638 do you have to clean the color wheel now and then

Hi Deilbert

If you are Tech Savvy, A quick careful air blow inside from a Camera Type Air Can could clear any dust accumulation and cool the projector down somewhat.
There are many moving parts & sensitive items.
If you do attempt to clean it with a can of air
Be very careful or it could be an expensive item.

The Modern LCD or LED or Plasma Screens are fully digital computers & have no moving parts.
My next one will be an LED or OLED as the price of power is going up and any savings around the house are welcome.
Even my Light Bulbs are all LED Now

These TV's are so dependent on Mechanical items & Timing & High Power Lamps. Just Glad I don't own one.
Must be expensive to run of electricity.

Good Luck
Cheers TJH

I have a mitsubishi tv model wd 60638 I changed the lamp. Tv works fine for about 20 minutes then I start to smell like something is burning then picture starts to flicker, what could could cause this

You have a bad connector in the lamp. Stop running the TV immediately and contact the company you purchased the lamp from. this is common in older DLP tvs but not in one 5 years old unless you have a lot of hours on it. the connector can crack and arc inside the plug and then melt and smell terrible. It usually very repairable if you can get a ballast for it. the plug is part of the ballast.

Never really had that issue the one I worked on Operated normally for 20 minutes and then shut down completely. The fix for that is to get the OEM bulb instead of the replacement

This is a issue with the DMD board it is not using the colors properly. This part runs around $200 plus you might need to pay for installing. When a color wheel is bad you will have different symptoms.

Replaced lamp in my mitsubishi wd 60638 dlp but now I have a flickering picture

Sounds like a new lamp that is generic (not Mitsubishi) as the set does not know which lamp is in the set--works with one and not the other you have found your problem.
