Out of curiosity, did you install win 8 over a win 7 operating system? And did everything work all right before? Not sure if this could be a driver issue. Have you noticed any other things acting different or wrong? You may need to get updated drivers for your machine. Hope this helps you..

I did install over Windows 7. All was well before. I will look online for drivers that I may need.

SOURCE: my laptop keyboard is typing different letters and numbers

It sounds like your keyboard is starting to go. Try plugging a usb keyboard and using that. If your keyboard needs replacing, it may be around $50, but that will depend.

SOURCE: hp mini keyboard shift key 2 does not type @

it has to do with your keyboard setting, currently you are set to the united kingdom keyboard layout, you will need to change this to Unite States settings assuming that you got vista, you will need to do the following

goto control panel
click on regional and language option (there will be a pop up)
click on the keyboard and languages tab
click on the change keyboard button (another pop up will appear)
click on add
and add the United States Keyboard
change the keyboard setting on the upper drop down menu to United States, and then click ok.....this should solve your problem.

Why have ive lost the function to use the at key

Hi Diane Andrews

You stated as you have lost the @ function on your keyboard . And by looking at your DP i suppose its a laptop . Well then if so you might need to reset the keyboard layout settings for your laptop . Different OS has its different settings . You might have changed your language settings which may or might have caused it . Steps on how to its here . But if you have lost the @ key itself then ... you might need to get it change at your nearest computer repair shop or bring it to the vendor . Or maybe for time being you can use the on screen keyboard

CLick start - under the search - type On screen Keyboard and select it to use it .

Basic .. Fix an external keyboard and try if it works on that keyboard . If it does then your laptop keyboard might be at fault or need to change the settings .

Method 1 of 3: Changing the Language Settings (Windows)

If your keyboard is not displaying the correct characters when you press keys, your language settings may have gotten changed. If you have the incorrect region selected, your keyboard will act differently. To change it back, open the Control Panel.

You can access the Control Panel from the Start menu. Windows 8 users can right-click on the Windows button and select Control Panel from the menu

Open the Language settings. How you access this depends on which version of Windows you are using.

Windows 8 - If you are in Category mode, select "Change input methods" under the "Clock, Language, and Region" section. If you are in Icon mode, select "Languages".

Windows Vista and 7 - If you are in Category mode, select "Change keyboards and other input methods" under the "Clock, Language, and Region" section. If you are in Icon mode, select "Region and Language" and then click the "Keyboards and Languages" tab. Click the Change keyboards... button.

Windows XP - select "Regional and Language Options", click the Languages tab, and then click Details..

Select your language. Use the menu to select the default input language you want to use. In Windows Vista and 7, select your preferred language from the "Default input language" drop-down menu. In Windows 8, move your preferred input language to the top of the list.

What do the f keys mean

On each keyboard there are additional sets of keys delineated as "Function" Keys. These keys are used for additional programmed functions, such as "F8" or "Function 8" which will allow a Windows user to access a boot menu when Windows first starts up. On a regular 102 key keyboard, such as those on a desktop computer, the function keys are located at the top of the keyboard with the letter "F" preceding the number of the key. On a laptop, generally the function keys are accessed by holding down a blue "Fn" down at the bottom of the keyboard and the specific number on the numeric portion of the keyboard. So in the above example of "F8" the combination of holding down "Fn + 8" would accomplish the same action.

I hope this help and if you require additional assistance, please do not hesitate to ask.

My number pad on my keyboard is not working, how can I reactivate it?

At the top, left corner of the number pad, there should be a key that says "Num Lock." This key toggles the functionality of the number pad keys between Numbers and Directions.

Press Num Lock once and the numbers should start working again.

Press it again, and the keys should go back to the Directions (up, down, left, right, Page Up, etc.)

Good luck!

Definition for keyboard

As the name implies, a keyboard is basically a board of keys. Along with the mouse, the keyboard is one of the primary input devices used with a computer. The keyboard's design comes from the original typewriter keyboards, which arranged letters and numbers in a way that prevented the type-bars from getting jammed when typing quickly. This keyboard layout is known as the QWERTY design, which gets its name from the first six letters across in the upper-left-hand corner of the keyboard.

While the design of computer keyboards may have come from typewriters, today's keyboards have many other keys as well. Modifier keys, such as Control, Alt/Option, and Command (Mac) or the Windows key (Windows) can be used in conjunction with other keys as "shortcuts" to perform certain operations. For example, pressing Command-S (Mac), or Control-S (Windows) typically saves a document or project you are working on. Most of today's computer keyboards also have a row of function keys (F1 through F16) along the top of the keyboard, arrow keys arranged in an upside-down T, and a numeric keypad on the right-hand side. Some keyboards have even more buttons, allowing you to change the system volume, eject a CD, or open programs such as your e-mail or Web browser.

You need to activate "keyboard II) (keyboard 2). There is either a separate KBII key you need to press OR it's a 'code' function in which case you hold down the 'code' key then press the kb2 code key, then release the 'code' key.
