There are 2 possible solutions. One is the network cable is bad and the other is the network interface in the laptop. To solve the first, with the network cable plugged into the laptop, and the laptop turned on, can you see if there is Any indicator (led)light by the network cable? Different manufacturers do different things. If there is one and it is lit up green it would show connectivity that the cable is ok. The other problem may be that you need drivers for the network on the laptop. You will have to get the correct drivers for your machine. If you have another computer you can do a google search for your acer 1640z to get the drivers you will need. Just download them to the computer and save them to a flash drive (thumb drive, cd, etc) then just install them. Hope this helps...

SOURCE: bluetooth and wlan not working

This may sound like a stupid question but does your notebook computer have a WLAN/Bluetooth switch somewhere. This can be a touchsensitive "button" with some kind of antenna icon on it or a real switch/button.

If it's turned off, turn it on.

I hope this helps. Please rate.

Acer aspire 5310 Wireless LAN indicator light on windows 7

That sort of comes with a OS upgrade, in upgrades from XP to Win 7, I'm supprised that's the only thing that is a issue. I upgraded a old gateway (2005) from XP to Win 7 Pro N 64bit. and had some hardware issues to deal with. Consider yourself lucky. You can get use to it or search endlessly for a fix. Try the Acer forums, you may run across the issue.

NO GETTING WLAN DRIVER FOR MY ACER ASPIRIE 5500Z LAPTOP FOR WINDOWS VISTA .

Hi,

Depending on the wlan model, you need one of these drivers

Ambit
Atheros
Broadcom
Intel

As this is an older model, the drivers may not be compatible to Vista.
If none of them are working, either try to install Windows 7 (with 7 i had the WLAN already installed with windows on a travelmate 5520) or revert to windows XP, for which one of the drivers I gave you works for sure.

WLAN problem

Hi,
Yes this is an OS problem. Mostly laptop vendors like ACER expects that the OS is Vista or Windows 7.

And these OS have default drivers of WLAN but unfortunately Windows XP don't have these drivers.

So you have only two options.
Either to upgrade your OS or to search for valid drivers of WLAN of Win-XP on Acer's website.

Please rate this solution properly if it was helpful to you.

WLAN NOT WORKING

I suggest opening Device Manager and checking to see if you are missing any drivers. You can do this by opening the Start Menu and selecting Control Panel. Then select System. Click the Hardware Tab and then click the button for Device Manager. Then look in the right pane of the window for any yellow icons under Networking adapters. If you have a yellow icon over one, type the Make, Model no for your system into google followed by the word (driver) and you will find links that say drivers for XP. Go to them and download your drivers.

Acer 4720z wi fi driver on xp Os

Hi There, since Acer do no release a wlan driver for Windows XP, you need to use the driver for Window Vista. If you do not have the driver for Windows Vista, you download it from here . After finish downloading, then un-zip the file. Now let's start to install the wlan drivers. Go to your "Start Menu", then "Settings", "Control Panel" then "System", system properties windows will be pop up. Then select "Hardware" tab, and then click on "Device Manager" button. You will then see "Device Manager" windows. Look for your "Network Adapter" and you will see your wlan network adapter with red cross mark.Right click your red crossed wlan adapter, then select "Update Driver"
You will prompted with "Hardware Update Wizard" then select on "No, not this time" radio button and click on "Next" button. On next windows, select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" radio button and then select "Next" buttons.
Then another window will pop up, then select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install", then click on "Next" button. Then you will come to this windows "Select Network Adapter", you will see you existing network adapter that do not working, then select "Have Disk", and browse to the location where you have unzip the driver. Then Select the appropriate driver for your laptop. Acer Aspire laptop 4720z come in 3 wlan varian, Intel chipset, broadcom, and Atheros and I don't know which one is on your laptop. Just try one by one if you are not sure, it's only 3 to choose from.
Hope my solution could help you out.
