I have the same unit and ran into this problem too. The gasket around the 220v socket on the generator is too thick so it prevents the plug from entering enough to twist. I took the gasket out and reduced the thickness by about half using a razor saw from the hobby shop. Crude but it works now.

SOURCE: Husky 5000w Generator with a Subaru engin.

Fuel system needs cleaned. Dirt or build up get's in the passages and it can not properly regulate the fuel/air mixture. Being it runs well in choke position I would suspect it is plugged on the idle passage. Sometimes you can add a very small amount of "Seafoam" to the fuel and let it run while slowly moving the lever to the run position and this will clean it out. It is also possible that the fuel tank has a small amount of water in it. Good luck and have a great day.

SOURCE: Is Husky 5000w a Chinese product?

Hello, in response to the reply by Josh, Robin Subaru is manufactured by Fuji Heavy Industries. I personally own a Makita G6100R generator with an eleven hp Robin Subaru. It's my personal opinion that Robin Subaru makes the finest small engine that money can buy. I would take a Robin over a Honda every time. They are definitely constructed as an industrial product and the do not take short cuts on their products unlike their competitors. I have lost faith with Briggs & Stratton a long time ago and the same goes for Kohler. Honda has gone down in quality with their homeowner grade engines, their heavy duty/industrial engines are still great but they are using their name brand power to push the lower quality homeowner grade engines and charging a premium for the name. Robin has one grade INDUSTRIAL. That's my two cents for what it's worth. Michael Burke

The 220 plug has 4 leads and my 220 compressur has 3 wires how do i make the conection

The four wire 220 twist lock receptacle Two hot wires, one neutral, and a safety ground. Depending on your generators setup the neutral and ground are bonded as one; unless, it setup for a floating neutral.
You would normally connect the two hots and neutral. and leave the ground open on the four prong twist lock plug. Just make sure the compressor is earth grounded on its end.

Can I make 2 plug in sockets from one in a 240 volt circuit

There should be NO problem in actually "Adding: another :Outlet" have you thought of a 20 - 25 Amp Power Strip, Multiway Socket, As long as you DO NOT exceed the Amperage/Wattage of the "Supply" The generator, 5000W, there will be no trouble. You MUST ensure however that this is so.
5000 Watts is 21 Amps, Watts = Amps X Volts. IE: 21Amps x 240 Volts = 5000Watts +/- 10%. So the TOTAL Amps drawn by the SUM of all the things connected must be LOWER than, say 20 AMPS.

Coleman Powermate Progen 5000, the 240 locking 4 plug, how to wir

The L1420p is a common plug used for most all generators having 20amp outlet with ground. The markings on the plug are as follows; x,y, are hot connections 115v each; w connection is neutral; g is ground. You will need a four conductor cable to connect all the wires. In some cases, there is no need to connect the ground wire because on the generator, the ground is the frame. Check your manual for the proper method of attaching a ground to your generator. So unless you are grounding the frame to a ground rod or other method, the ground wire on the plug just goes to frame. If the heater is used on a jobsite, check local codes or OSHA requirements. You could also just ground the heater like many appliances in the home where there is an extra ground wire from the frame of the appliance to ground. Good Luck
