How much more RAM can be added?

It came with 512MB RAM. I replaced the original one with 2 GB Transcend DDR2 JM66QLU-2G. Can one more RAM of the same type ( 2GB) be added to it?

Windows 32 bit supports up to 4GB, but will only give 3GB as usable. 64 bit is a whole different story, but keep in mind that most software is not written for large amounts of RAM.

SOURCE: ACER 9410-4933 LAPTOP ? Won?t boot with 4Gb CRUCIAL RAM

YES THE FREQUENCY OF BOTH RAMS DO NOT MATCH ... THATS BOOTING WITH EACH BUT ONLY ONE BY ONE ... YOU NEED RAMS OF SAME FREQUENCY AND SYSTEM WILL SUPPORT BOTH OF THEM TOGETHER ...

SOURCE: error message after installing memory ram upgrade.....

Your memory appears compatible with your model of laptop. It is possible that you have a bad stick of memory. Try installing the sticks 1 at a time and boot up with each stick separately and see what happens. If 1 of the sticks allows you to boot but the other does not then I would contact PNY for a replacement stick. Just to double check here you are installing 2 gigs total not 2 2gig sticks for a total of 4 gigs. Max memory for Dell Inspiron laptops is 2 Gigs.

SOURCE: I upgraded the memory from 1Gb to 2 Gb but my laptop's still slow

look system performance like gettin slow depends on the condition of hard disk actually after 3 years of use and sometimes new hard drive also gets damaged and slow down bcoz of jerks and bumps during transportation it degrades there performance so always carry ur notebook in a good carry case ,hard disk gets weak and its strength goes down it becomes slow in loading OS giving data to programs hence slow down the performance of the whole system

sytem doesnt depend much on ram it depends on condition of hard drive as well, if u would have asked me my answer is replace hard disk instead of RAM from 1gb to 2 gb offcourse more is better but in this case hard disk will help u

if u want to check the status and age of ur hard drive go to www.binarysense.com and download hddlife for notebooks from there a trial version will also show u the health of ur hard drive

so my friend if u need a new boost in sys performance u need to replace hard disk with a new 250 GB atleast 5400 RPM but for best u can go for 160/250 GB 7200 RPM and HITACHI is the best brand among all manufacturers as i have tested and experts also prefer that, ur notebook might carry 120 or 160 Gb 4200 RPM as far as i know

pls rate me FIXYA if i have fixed ur problem

SOURCE: Laptop max RAM is 2GB. Had 512mb single stick. Won't accept upgra

the problem is the frequency ...you have to set into bios on the memory to read it on the lower one..so it will read both ....also if it is booting with both on but not showing into the windows properties..you have to reinstall the operating system to do that ...In-fact this is a standard procedure when you upgrade the Ram memory ..even if it reads it all ok ..you still have to reinstall...
You was kinda messy in explanations and I didnt quite understand what kinda memory you put in and it do not boot at all..but remember that this laptop will not read anything bigger than !G on one slot ..and ..if it reads them separately ...but when you put them together it is not even starting on reading devices..than you have to insert them and short the bios to reset all to the factory defaults with the memory in ...in that moment the bios settings will force to the lowest frequency ..in this case the one from the 512 unit ..

I bought a new 1GB ram(DD2) when i insert it it nt work bt whenever i insert it with old 512MB ram then its work bt in bios setting only show the 1GB ram

Maybe 1GB is the maximum amount of memory that your system will hold. And maybe your system likes memory to be in pairs, so when you put the 1GB in by itself it didn't work, but when you put it in with a 512MB it works.

I am going to upgrade ram to 1 gb. can i use ddr2 1 gb ram to upgrade .motherboard is microstar model ms-6526 ver: 2 . present ram is ddr1 400 MHz, 512 MB

If your computer has two RAM slots on the motherboard, i would recommend trying it. The computer will run on the 512MB stick alone and just not recognise the other stick. And if it works it works.

I have searced for support documentation and came up with none for the original MS-6526

I run my original version MS-6526 on a 512MB PC2300 (DDR1) and a 512MB PC3200 (DDR1) and it runs just fine for games and videos.

Personally I would recommend trying the DDR2 first and if that fails, return the card and get a DDR1 card. They are expensive, but at least they work.

When i upgraded the memory to 2G of memory, the screen will not turn on.

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot. If you have tried putting a single stick of 2 GB or RAM, it won't work.

Ensure you have purchased the proper kind of RAM. Also ensure the stick is seated securely and properly into the slot.

Good Luck,

1gb shows 512mb only

Your mobo is quite old and its chipset can only support a maximum of 512MB PER SIDE (technically called a bank) of a memory module. I would guess that your 1gb memory module has 8 chips that are all located on one side of the module, putting all of the 1 GB on one bank. Thus, only 512MB of your 1 gb RAM is detected and usable by your motherboard (the remaining 32 mb is most likely being used by your onboard video). You'll need to find a double sided 1 gb memory module (usually 8 chips on each side).

Need to add Ram memory

Hey,

This is really easy on this model of acer laptop
  • unplug the power adapter and remove the battery from the laptop

1. Remove the two screws fastening the RAM cover.
2. Detach the RAM cover from the main unit.
3. Pop out the memorys and remove the memorys from the memory sockets.

the 1gb memory modules need to be low-density ie chips on both sides. the motherboard can only recognise 512mb on each side of the memory module.

Adding RAM

If it has 4 slots and supports 2Gb max with 2 slots currently populated with 2 x 256mb chips you'll need to remove both those chips and install 4 x 512mb chips to reach the max of 2 Gb.
