Before you upgrade, there should be a checklist of compatible items, check whether you fixed all the warnings as it may interfere with the installation. You should check your log files from the installation and google the error code to see how it's usually resolved. Some people encounter problems due to their graphics card driver being incompatible, so you should take a look into that. If you're installing into a blank HDD, check whether your formatting is correct.

HP desktop running windows 8 tries restore from disc now wont get past windows setup

I don't know what caused windows 8 to try to restore but usually if the pc is still running then the option is from the pc itself. if you happen to use an install disk but doesn't work your hard disk could be bad.
give me some more details i might help you some more.

Asus 53 n laptop

Hello,
1. option - Removing Windows 8 by installing Windows 7 over it*:
Go to the disc where you have the Windows 7 installer.
Then right click, click on Mount, when done, click on the Setup file and install Windows 7 over your current system.
2. option - Keeping Windows 8 and installing Windows 7 alongside it**:
Restart the Windows 8 system, before Windows logo shows up, keep pressing F12, then choose the disc you have Windows 7 .iso file on.
3. option - Running it from a DVD, but keeping/removing*** Windows 8:
a) go to the disc where you have the Windows 7 .iso file installer.
b) move the .iso file to a easily accessible place like Desktop.
c) then right click on the .iso file and click on Burn disk image, choose the DVD you want to boot from ( You need a readable DVD), and then check the checkbox which says " Verify disc after burning ".
d) click on Burn.
e) when that is done, close all open programs or/and windows and restart your computer, before Windows logo shows up, keep pressing F12, then choose the disc you have Windows 7 installer on.
Note - please read everything carefully. I suggest you to use the 3. method.
* - when in the setup, you have no option to go back to Windows 8.
** - this step might not work, because not all computers support that.
*** - you can choose to either create a new partition on which you will install Windows 7 or install it over Windows 8 by either kepping or not keeping your personal files.
Please reply to this solution: did it help you or not and what improvements in my solutions do you want, and rate my solution from 0-5.

Is hp touchsmart IQ804 compatible with windows 8

I tried to install Win8 on my IQ804 yesterday, it seems to fail at the very end by just giving me a black screen. I am forced to hard boot it and the system restores Windows Vista.

I am still looking into the issue.

Try going to dll-files.com and download the necessary file. Copy that file to C:\Windows\System. Hopefully this works for you. If not, you could also reinstall Windows which will reinstall the necessary files.

The power went out 3 times with the computer on and now windows won't load. It tries to install, reboots, tries to install, etc. I keep getting the BSoD. Can you help?

It sounds as if the Windows main EXE file is corrupt. Run CHKDSK from the system disk or if you can't get into it, run your rescue disk and follow the prompts to repair yuor system or if you haven't got one, place your Windows disk in the disk drive and let it boot from the CD, when the option to choose what you want to do appears, select repair or restore system.
That should replace the installation of Windows without formatting your hard drive and losing all of your data.
