Question about Toshiba 46H83 46" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Open Question

Infared sensor not receiving

The first symptom was no control of tv with remote control. We bought a second Toshiba remote, didn't work. I have some electronics experience, so I ordered a remote sensor, upon getting part figured out where it goes to find that the original part has four (4) leads.
the new part has only three(3). Virtually have no test equipment(VOM)
I am assuming the problem is on Toshiba board 23599707 or possibly PD1280-1 these are possible part numbers. I could live with this not working but have not determined how to switch from TV to Sat without the remote.

It might require a qualified hands on tech. But by my experience remote sensor at the TV side wont have malfunction easily. You can still think about the Remote. You can test remote control by your own. How? You need to have a portable AM radio (MW). while pressing the buttons of the remote control you can move the tuning dial (Remote control should be close to the radio within 5inches). If you hear patterned sound it shows remote control is working. The AM radio method is well known and it has over 85% success rate for all kind of IR remote controls fail isolation. You can also try with known working remote control of other devices to understand the method. If remote control test shows that it works contact to service. Please send new posts if you need further assistance.

Good Luck

SOURCE: TV remote control sensor

yeah,it's very easy.

pull out the bottom part(where the speakers are) - they are held with plastic hooks on the inside, they are =on the left and right side and a few at the top. just pull one end and the rest will come off easily.

remove a couple of screws holding the buttons assembly and the bottom of the screen.

slide the screen carefully upwards and when you reach about half way then it will come off.

behold...the sensor is infront of you, it's a small pcb with a light sensor on it. (if you see sensors at the very top or side...they are probably focus sensors)

sure it's not the remote?

SOURCE: Toshiba 43H71 - remote sensor not working

The sensor is not the only fault that can cause the remote control to not work. The sensor is only one part of the circuits involved.

Between the sensor, there may be buffer amplifier stage, and then there is the main uPC.

What we do is send a remote IR data signal to the sensor, and on the circuit board in the set I follow the data signal along its path using a scope in reference to the service diagrams to see where the data loss is.

Personaly, I would not blindly buy a new sensor based on a guess without doing the proper tests.

Bought new Vizio 55"

Had same problem - turned off Adaptive Lumina, Backlight control, and Ambient light sensors on the Vizio advanced picture settings and the Dish remote now works. Vizio was emitting an infared signal that interfered with the Dish remote signals with these settings on. TV still works and looks just fine... But best of all Dish remote works too.

TV does not detect remote control.

Remote control receiving sensor circuit problem in the TV. Mostly due to degradation of the sensor over a period of time.

Go close to the TV and see whether you get a response. If it responds try determining the distance back wards. If the remote works up to certain distance, the problem is weak sensor (TV).

If totally not operative it is sensor circuit problem. It could be sensor or it's associated parts.

Remote Sensor Repair

Before condemming the infared remote receiver, make sure that you have tried and original toshiba remote control. Sometimes universals do not always work. If you do have to replace the (IRR), the main circuit board or the button assembly must be removed. The part is soldered in and has only three wires. The approximate cost of the part is around $20. You local service center would probably charge you $80 to $100 for the repair. If you have already tried a number of universals, the chances are that the(IRR is defective). Also try the code search on the universal remote sometimes this will work. Scrivitron

Receiver not taking commands from the remote

Point the remote at a digital video camera to see if you can see the small blue infared light comming from the end of the remote when you aim it at the camera and press a button. if you do see the light then your receiver has a system control problem I'm afraid. You see your eyes cannot see the infared light but the camera optics can. Good Luck

Sony Trinitron 30" no remote seems to work

If you want to test the voltage you can do so at connector CN002 on the main board. You should have 5 volts DC at pin 4 and at pin 5 marked SIRCS (sony infared remote control system)should be 5 volts as well but, will drop to about 2.5 volts when any button is pressed on the remote. If it doesn't change then you should change the HR board wich houses the IR rec. and associated components.

My remote control does not work

You could have a defective IR sensor in the tv set that sends the infared signal to the MIcroprocessor IC. These are something you cant just replace, as it needs to be trouble shot with a scope to see if theres a data signal comming out of the sensor and if there is it could be a bad solder connection somewhere between the sensor plug to the Main IC. Also could be the B+ that supplys voltage to the sensor. Unless you have had electronic repoair experience, You should have a pro assist you with this repair. Sorry I couldnt assist you more with this . Good Luck
