Question about Ruud Handler Air Conditioner

1 Answer

The burner lights for a few seconds and then shuts off

I have a rudd furnace. the burner will not stay lit. Previously It had the same problem, I suspected the flame sensor was the problem, but when I tightened the grounds and connections to the circuit board the furnace worked normally for years. Now it is having the same problem and tightening the connections helps for a few days then it stops working again. sometimes the burner runs for several minutes before sutting down? I am wondering if the flame sensor or perhaps the overheat switch may be at fault? I used to have a manual for the furnace with diagrams, etc (which helped a lot) but don't seem to be able to find it now (years later) any thoughts

Furnace not staying on

Could be thermostat or safety switch(es) in the furnace. Are you sure that the pilot is staying lit? Are you sure the main burner is lighting? Are you sure the forced draft blower is running, and the blower-detection "flapper" switch is working OK? Any of these safety devices will cause the gas supply valve to close if they are not "satisfied" in a few seconds after the thermostat calls for heat. They keep your RV safe!

Janitrol GUPS075-3 Furnace burners will not stay lit

The first thing I would do is make sure the flame sensor is clean, this is a metal rod immersed in the burner flame on the opposite side of the igniter. If too much oxidation builds up on it, it will not allow the burner to stay lit. To clean, just turn off furnace and remove flame sensor and clean with steel wool and then reinstall. If this does not solve the problem there may be a problem with the gas valve.

Hello, looks like the burners are not staying lit Because the furnace is going off on its high limit switch. This could be due to the blower motor being loose on the motor shaft, the blower wheel being extremely dirty, the bearing on the motor can be worn etc. Turn off power to the furnace and see if you can spin the blower wheel by hand, if not the blower wheel will need to be replaced.

I would first check the gas pressure to your furnace. Then make sure that burners are clean and watch flames when burner first ignites. I have seen burners that were dirty cause delayed ignition that would create a suction when they came on and extingush pilot and burners.
The next thing I would do is change gas valve. Thank you

Flame sensor dirty

Sandpaper lightly scrubbed over the sensor tip to remove any contamination.

Sometimes cleaning is not enough and the sensor must be replaced.

I have aGibsonGMPN 060-3 gas furnace. The ignitor

May have a dirty flame rod. Look in the burner box at either the far right or far left for a probe that sticks in the flame of a burner. There will be only one wire going to it. This rod is a safety sensor that shuts off the gas if it does not sense flame within a few seconds. If you brush off the rod with a toothbrush or Scotch Brite pad it may take care of your problem. If not, make sure the flame travels from burner to burner quickly. The burner tray may need to be brushed off.

Gas furnace wont stay lit

sounds like the thermocouple that senses when the burner ignites is faulty. when the burner is first lit it looks for a signal from the thermocouple telling it that it has ignition. i have had some luck removing the part (furnace off) and sanding it clean. this is located in front of one of the burners..Good luck
