Yes, If your printer is connected to your laptop, it is possible for you to "share" your printer with other devices on the same networking subnet as your router.

First step is to share your printer. If you have Windows XP, you can go to START, Printers and Faxes and Right click on your printer and go to SHARING. Select the option for "Sharing this Printer". After this step do not forget to give the printer a name and use no spacing, for example "Printer". Click Apply and then Click "OK".

Now your printer is shared and will be broadcasted on your home network with your laptop acting as a print server.

In order to access the printer from another PC, you can use the UNC Path in order to access the printer.

You will need the computer name of the laptop to which you have the printer connected. Right Mouse click on "My computer" of your laptop, click on properties and then record the name from your laptop computer.

Now all you will need to do is to install the print drivers on your PC. Once they have been installed, you will need to configure a Local Port. Right Mouse CLick on the printer, Select Properties, Ports and click on "Add Port ...", Select "Local Port", Select "New Port".

Now you will need to type in the blank space th UNC path which will be "\\LAPTOPCOMPUTERNAME\SHAREDPRINTERNAME", and then select ok.

Try to send a test print from the printer, and you should be good to go. If not email me back.

You'll need to share the printer on the desktop then add new printer on the laptop (when adding new printer you'll need to seach for network printers).
Prerequisite of this is that both machines are in the same workgroup and that file and printer sharing is on on both machines

Wirelessly connect to hp deskjet f380 printer

This model printer only has USB printer connection and it cannot be connected to a wireless network directly.
If you have a wireless router then you can connect a print server to this HP printer and then connect the print server to the wireless router. This will allow you to print wirelessly yo the HP printer when you configure the printer server and configure the printer driver in the computers to connect to the printer port IP address of the print server.

Temporarily disable all firewalls on your system even the Windows XP firewall
(for instruction to disable XP firewall, please go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283673 )

Power cycle the print sever by unplug the power at the back (10 second).
The print server default IP is 192.168.5.1
Set the computer which has the print server utility installed to have an IP of 192.168.5.2

(Test ping the print server / 192.168.5.1 --
If print server is respond to ping, using web browser with the address of 192.168.5.1 will also beable to configure the print server)

Run the utility/hit the refresh button to find the print server again.
The CD has two installation methods:
1. The Auto run will run the utility.
2. By manually install the program into your system. (Browse CD to the folder: manual installation.)
It is recommended to use the 2nd method and run the PSAdmin utility from the system's programs after the installation is completed.
If it still could not find the print server, direct connect your computer to the print server using cross over cable and run the utility again to find the print server.
When it finds the print server, change the print server IP(192.168.5.1) to a unique static IP your router can accept. Put the print server back to the network, change back your computer's IP accordingly and try ping the print server with the new IP or run the utility again.

For wireless print server, it is recommended to use Ad-hoc connection from a wireless computer to connect to the print server first. (follow the Quick Installation Guide booklet that came with the box on page 8)

Need my laptop to communicate wireless to printer

If the printer does not have a built-in network card/print server then there is a couple of ways to do this.
If you have a desktop computer connected to the wireless router with a LAN cable, then connect the printer to the desktop computer and make this printer a shared printer on your network. This means that the desktop computer and printer needs to be on when you want to print from the laptop.
The other way is to purchase a print server, connect the printer to the print server and connect the print server with a LAN cable to the Wireless router.
If you don't have sufficient network ports on the wireless router then you need to purchase a hub. Then connect the hub and wireless router with a LAN cable and then the print server to the hub and other computers to the hub.
Setting up the wireless printing will depend upon which method you want to adopt and I can advise you when further when you are ready.

The printer and print server has to be connected to the wireless router by a network cable for you to print wirelessly from the laptop.
If possible connect a long network cable between the print server and the wireless router or move the router next to the print server and printer.
You maybe able to use a wireless repeater/extender but is it worth the added costs and complication. The extended range would invite hackers unless you secure your system.
