Will not start type III 2.0 C.I. 16 inch chain saw
Remove the spark plug and test for snappy, blue spark. If nothing, try a new plug. If still nothing, remove the left side cover to expose the flywheel and ignition module. Remove the wire from the module that goes to the ignition switch and retry for spark. I now ok, look for problems with the ignition switch or possibly, the wire is grounding out somewhere. If still no spark, replace the module itself. Use a thin business card for a pole gap gauge, rotate the magnets under the module, set the gauge in the gaps, loosen the mounting screws and allow the module to stick to the magnets. Re-tighten the screws, and rotate the flywheel to remove the card from the gap, then turn the flywheel one complete revolution while checking that the pole gap does not close up at any point. Recheck for spark. If now ok, place some fuel mix in the plug hole and pull through--it should pop several times and maybe even run. If you get only pops, then check the fuel system lines and the filter in the tank. Make sure that the air cleaner and muffler are not plugged. Hope this helps!
