the same thing happened to our 42 HP86 red smow at the top than one day now pcture just sound... we took ours to a television repair shop and said we needed a power source wich would cost about $200 and another $200 for the labour so we were looking at a total of $486 plus taxes..... we still dont know what to do when we bought the tv it was $2000 back in 2004.
You need to replace the Ymain and the buffers. This is a very common problem with this set, and its magnavox and samsung counterparts. Look throught the other solved postings for a detailed description of how to dismantle and replace. Plan on spending at least $200 on this repair. Likely a bit more.
most times then not it's the capacitors on your power board that blew there for not supplying the tv with enough power if you open it up and check the capacitors it should be leaking some kind of liquid or the tops have bubbled up. its an easy fix cost>>2 dollars each
Hi, If you have confirmed that your power cable is connected properly from your TV to the wall outlet (bypass surge protector strip if you are using one), then no picture and no sound is typical of SMPS (Power Supply) board gone bad. It can cost upwards of $200 plus labor. The good thing is, LG generally offers two (2) years parts and labor warranty for their big screen TVs. LG Repair turn around time is usually fast. Goodluck!
If the Video (Picture/Pix) is gone but you can hear the Audio (sound), then it could mean the YSUS PCB Assembly is gone/kaput/finish. Can replace the PCB, not repair the PCB due to timing circuitry involve. Cost maybe roughly $500 depending where you located. The PCB is located on the left hand side of your TV when you are facing the back (Back open). Might find 3-4 brown flex membrane connecting to the plasma panel. The PCB has a silver or black aluminum heatsink (big) on it. Good Luck.
Flat panel TV's typically do not have "bulbs," but rather backlighting. Plasma displays are especially touchy during movement. I would suggest checking your warranty status, as it's probably not something you can easily repair. If you wanted to take on the repair yourself, be careful not to lay down the screen, as it will drastically shorten the life of the Plasma display. I would start with checking the system boards for possible damage, since you did hear a "click," It was probably a fuse, chip, etc.
