How do I discharge a capacitor?

Good Morning Friend,

I understand you want to know how to discharge the capacitor on your Electrolux dishwasher. Typically, this is not a do it yourself job, and there are no step by step instructions on how to do this. I suggest contacting your local authorized technician, for further assistance. They have been trained on your dishwasher, and should know how to discharge the capacitor and help repair your dishwasher. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Whirlpool quiet partner II stops running or won't complete it's was cycle, sometimes is will wash for a few minutes and stop or it will stop before the water even starts to flow.

I had the same problem with my dishwasher. After hearing that the motherboard was the problem I decided to take a closer look. There were two capacitors (1000 microfarads, 6.3 volts) that looked a little suspect. The tops of capacitors should be flat...these looked like soda cans that had been left in the freezer. Got on eBay, located the capacitors for roughly $3 and $4 shipping, for approx total of $10. Soldered the two new capacitors into the motherboard and put it back together. As soon as I closed the door, the dishwasher started draining the water. When I ran a Normal cycle it completed successfully. Saved myself over $120!

Will replacement motor 266520 fit SGS53E72EU/71 Bosch dishwasher

The motor for that model is 489652, I think you'll find that the two middle tags on the original motor are linked and one of the original wires has a smaller spade connector so can only go on a specific connection. As for the cap can you use the coupling from the old one?? What are the symptoms to need to replace motor?

Maytag dishwasher model MDB7100AWB has power to dishwasher but nothing works (as if there was no power). Is there a fuse in the dishwasher somewhere? If not, what is the most likely cuase? Thanks.

Hello,

No thier is no fuse so what the most likely problem will be a defectice door switch switch so even though the door is closed the switch thinks its open and will not allow the dishwasher to start.

Whirlpool dishwasher model DU945PWSB0 ..... doesn't start reliably. When normal/hi temp wash/start are selected, sometimes the green lights don't come on at all. Sometimes after opening and...

This could be "capacitor plague" on the controller board. TVs and computer monitors are the most common items with this problem, but I've seen it on a dishwasher with the same symptoms you describe. The capacitors are burned out inside, and the top of the capacitors may be domed upwards from the internal pressure from the overheating. (Smaller electrolytic capacitors may have the outer can pushed partway off of the rubber lead seal instead.) See the photo below to identify a bad electrolytic capacitor. Often more than one will be bad.

Fortunately, replacement capacitors are relatively cheap and easy for an electronic technician to replace (any TV tech should be able to solder it in). There are five parameters needed to specify a replacement capacitor:
Capacitance in uF (the "u" is actually the Greek letter mu, for "micro"), as in 470 uF. You must match this number.
Voltage rating. The new part must have a voltage rating at least as high as the original. This will probably be 6.3, 10, or 16 Volts.
Temperature rating: the maximum temperature must meet or exceed the rating on the original; the minimum is not so critical because you won't operate or store the dishwasher in sub-freezing temperatures.
Physical size: the lead spacing should be the same as the original, and the capacitor should not be too large to fit in the available space when the board is installed in the dishwasher. Usually these dimensions are in millimeters.
Ripple current: this is not marked on the capacitor, but getting a new part with too low a ripple current rating will result in replacing another burned-out part before long. Generally, the Panasonic FR series capacitors have a more than adequate ripple current rating. Often it is worth going one size up in voltage to get the extra ripple current capacity and lifetime rating, if the part isn't too big to fit - the price difference is a few pennies.

badcap-vqu0ky5rjsa2rrg3ipyvc5ct-1-0.jpeg (Photo from the-computer-problems-guru.com) Note the difference between the marked bad capacitors and the good ones with flat tops. The part with stripes is a resistor. It may get hot during operation. Replacement capacitors should not be touching any large resistors or they may burn out prematurely. It is very important that the new capacitor have its polarity marking stripe going the same way as the original; putting it in backwards will ruin it and may even cause it to explode.

Note: disconnect power from the dishwasher before opening the control panel. Do not touch the circuitry with your fingers; only handle the circuit board by the edges. Touching the circuitry may damage the parts with a static electricity discharge, even if you don't feel the spark. If you need to take the board out for repairs, get an anti-static bag to carry it; do not use an ordinary plastic bag. If nothing else, put it component side down on a cookie sheet, and again, avoid touching the circuit traces or letting them come into contact with material that could generate or conduct a static electricity discharge.

A screaming noise seems to be coming from the metal cylinder (capacitor ?)above the pump on the right side of the dishwasher. Makes noise only when the pump is on.

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa

Based on your description, "A screaming noise seems to be coming from the metal cylinder (capacitor ?)above the pump on the right side of the dishwasher. Makes noise only when the pump is on" It is likely the carbon impeller seal inside the pump assembly you`re hearing.

It looks like this...

57c9c85.jpg

It is located in that area, but inside the pump housing. It is a well known issue with the B/S/H/ dishwashers ( Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau, Siemens ) and a service bulletin was issued to authorized techs. some years back.

It can be remedied in one of two methods, complete pump/motor assembly shown below, or just the impeller kit shown above.

47d4ca2.jpg

The part number to replace it for the complete assy is # 442548 or the kit # 167085.

Both are available at several on-line depots such as "searspartsdirect.com" "repairclinic.com" to name a couple.

If you`d like to email me at my live account macmarkus@live.ca I can send you a complete service file on how to repair it with part numbers, procedure etc.

Thank you for choosing FixYa. Please keep me posted on your progress or if you need further assistance.

Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Make, model, serial number of your unit is ... ? I have dealt with capacitors for over 50 years, so I know what I'm doing. But there is no such thing as a five MICROVOLT capacitor, which is what 5uv means to a scientist like myself! Did you mean five micro FARAD, which should be expressed 5uF? But the voltage rating is critical, and the physical size is critical and the temperature rating is critical and the lead diameter is critical and the lead spacing is critical and the style (axial lead versus radial lead) is critical.
