Running recovery searching for a free slot?

The free slot, will be a place where the Library can put a backup tape. It needs to do a cycle, "feeling" every location, to see if, and where tapes are in.

I have a Tanberg 6000x. Rarely used, in seemingly mint condition. Only problem is that the two tape reels seem to move in opposing directions. I don't have a clue.

The old Tandberg's are good reel to reel recorders. Unfortunately, that joystick drive mechanism is very complex under the hood. It pushes different levers and such to apply the right combination for whatever mode you select. If you're somewhat mechanically inclined, try sliding the deck out of its case. Move the joystick to see what's being pushed where. That may show you something slipped out or broken. If not, you may have to power it up and watch the difference between play and fast forward. Both should make the takeup spool (right side) rotate CCW. You may be able to see the difference and move or tighten something up. If its not that obvious or you are not so inclined, you may have to search out a person to repair it who knows the Tandberg. They are somewhat unusual beasts (the deck not the techs) so you need someone who knows that joystick mechanism - Tandberg used it a lot but they were about the only one.

I have a Quantum CL1105 8 slot autoloader (LTO3) and using Bakbone Netvault backup software. I can use HP or Tandberg brand cartridges successfully but if I use Imation or Sony brand cartridges the backups...

Mixing brands can be an issue because different brands might use different lubricants on the tape it self.  I would check with the vendor - are are you positive you are using the excact same LTO version?

Tandberg LTO HH (LTO-3)

The error is because the driver isn't loaded for the device. Look up how to add the device in symantec help. If windows recognizes it already then usually you can go to devices and add teh device from within symantec.

Remove stuck tape

It depends on the type of TD you are using. For many TDs, there is a manual eject screw, either on the bottom or side of the drive. You can usually access this screw without removing the cover or faceplate (although side mounting rails may need to come off). The manual ejection screw is usually recessed a little bit, and may even be covered by a piece of clear plastic (in the case of DDS 4-5 drives). It will also have an arrow indicating which way to turn to load or unload. There are usually standards within each seperate TD technology - but there is no standard across all tape drives - and Tandberg as a company is notorious for not having one at all. DDS 4 and 5 for instance - the screw is on the right side of the drive, near the rear, turning the screw clockwise will unload the media.

For a Tandberg LTO2 drive, there is no way to remove the media without removing the top cover and essentially rendering the drive unusable. If your drive or server is under warranty with onsite support - that would be the best option for a Tandberg LTO2 drive

My Tandberg LTO Drive isn't working with Veritas Backup Exec

When you say 'rolled back' did you use a system restore function? Do the backup logs say why they failed?
